Chapter 53

Miranda pushed back her plate and got up from the floor. She ran to the door but as soon as she opened it, her smile faded. "What do you want?" Jax walked past her and looked around her place. Miranda sighed and closed the door. "We need to discuss Jerry." "Why?" "Because you claim to care. If so, then caring for him is the one thing we agree on..." Miranda interrupted him with a laugh. "That's classic. You call continually putting his life and happiness way below yours *caring*?" Now, it was Jax's turn to sigh. "What's that supposed to mean?" "Sonny's place ring a bell?" "Sonny's dead." "Yes, lucky for you." "No, thanks to you...sort of." Jax shook his head, his version of Jerry's mischevious smirk playing around his lips. "And don't deny it...I know." he sat down on her sofa. "Why do you eat on the floor?" "Cassadines....and I can't deny anything, since I have no idea what you're talking about." A flash of darkness went through, contrasting the clear blueness of his eyes. "And this is why we don't get along. You never say what you mean, and you never own up to anything. I *know* that you were visiting your old pal Corinthos, and that you told him about my digging into his past..." "How would..." "And I would have to assume you convinced him the only way out, was through Keesha and V. I must hand it to you...that would have been a correct assumption. Of course, neither of them cared enough for me to stop it. I gather Sonny got that point...so he killed himself. Was that the plan all along-or just an added...I don't know...*bonus* for you, or whoever it is that you are working for these days...Helena, maybe Moreno..." Miranda laughed once more. "I think you're paranoid Jax. Why would I visit Sonny?" "I don't know *why* you do the things that you do. I don't really care either. But I am aware...I'm way ahead of you." Jax stood from the sofa. "So don't underestimate me." he walked to the door. "You know, I think you might want to take a vacation...leave Jerry be for awhile. Not that he would notice that you were gone, he's been so busy with Bobbie and all..." Jax suppressed his grin as Miranda shifted briefly. "Yes, he is rather busy. But unlike you, I want Jerry to be happy-so if Bobbie makes him happy, then more power to them." "There you go, not owning up. Don't even consider messing this up for him. Or else, all your little secrets will come out. Just like they did last time." Miranda came closer to him. "You?..." she began, honestly in awe. "Yes, I was the one who got the evidence about Benjamin and you working together. And I was the one who gave the evidence to Jerry. Now, I don't know how you did it, but you managed to worm yourself back into his good graces. Yet, let me explain something-he's a Jacks...and we don't *ever*" his voice lowered and Miranda took a step back. "*ever* forget. So I am *telling* you, stay out of my way, and keep yourself clear of Jerry and Bobbie, and for the last time, stop whatever ridiculous plan you have. Or else Jerry will find out all about you and Sonny, and all the other secrets you don't think I'm aware of. Have I made myself clear?" Miranda took a deep breath. "Get out." she whispered. "With pleasure." Jax stated and walked out the door. Miranda stood frozen to the spot and then bolted to the doorway. "YOU CAN'T BULLY YOUR WAY THROUGH ME JAX!!!" she yelled after him, her anger growing as he ignored her and disappeared into the stairwell. She slammed the door shut, tears of hatred streaming down her face. "Stop crying my dear. I thought that Jericho was the one you loved." Miranda looked up, gasping as Helena and Peter stood in front of her. Jerry leaned up against the bar, looking across the dining room of the Port Charles Grill at Jax and Keesha. Jerry watched as Keesha got up from the table, passing Jax with a whispered smile and bending to place a kiss on his cheek. Jerry's own smile grew as he noticed Jax holding on to Keesha's hand for as long as he could, his fingers finally gliding their way away from hers so she could leave the dining area. "Hi." "Hi." Jerry turned and stared at Bobbie. "You look lovely." "Thank you." she nodded with a small blush. "Oh...are we having dinner with Jax?" she motioned over to Jax's table. "Jax is with his own lovely right now. Besides, I prefer to have your undivided attention." "You always have my undivided attention. That has never changed." she admitted softly. "Unlike..." she laughed as Jerry's phone rang. "One moment..." he promised as he picked up his phone. "What?" "Jerry? Jerry...please help me." Miranda's voice was quiet and shaken. "What's wrong?!" Bobbie looked up at the concern in Jerry's voice. "Helena..." Jerry hung up before Miranda could finish. "Bobbie...I'm sorry...I'm really sorry..." he bent over, kissing Bobbie quickly before bolting out of the room. Bobbie blinked, touching her lips as she watched Jerry disappear from sight. "What?" She turned as Jax tapped her shoulder. "Would you like to join me and Keesha for dinner?" "Do you know where he went?" "I can hazard a guess. But trust me, it will likely be the last time." "I don't understand you two...I really don't." she shook her head. "But, okay...if you don't mind." Jax smiled at her but as he watched while she walked over to the table where Keesha was sitting once more, his smile disappeared. Jerry came out of his bedroom and ran over to the kitchen. "I'm sorry, I had to take that call." he called out. "I need for you to be *completely* honest with me Miranda." Jerry came in with the glass of water, his tone somewhat begging. "Thank you for letting me stay here, I just feel so much safer around you..." she took a sip of water. "Jax came by." "Why?" "To tell me to get lost and leave you alone, you know...the usual." "I told him to leave you alone." "People tell Jax a lot of things, but when does that stop him...sorry." she added when Jerry glared at her. "I know, you love him." "So, Jax scared you?" "No...but when he was gone, Helena was there...with one of her houseboys." "Why?" "To bully me...to let me know that she hasn't forgotten her plan against Nikolas...and my part." "That's all?" Jerry took Miranda's hand and looked into her eyes. "Are you *sure*?" "Of course. I tell you everything now Jerry. I promise." "And why don't I beleive you?" Jax closed the front door. Jerry got up from the table across from Miranda. "No one invited you. Get out Jax." "I have every right to be here." Jax stared at Jerry. "No, this is between me and my friend..." "Friend?! She is nothing but a..." Jax flew into the wall as Jerry punched him. Jax glared up at him, touching the edge of his mouth. "I said *get out*." Miranda looked down at the floor and couldn't help but smile. Composing herself she took another sip of water and waited as she turned to look at them both. Shani
