Chapter 52

V walked downstairs and knocked on the door. The guard opened it and let her in. "What's this...Keesha?" Keesha turned and looked at V. "Your guess is as good as mine. Can we get this over with now?" she added to Sonny. "I want to tell you about Deke." he stated simply. "How he's the reason I turned out how I did. You do know who Deke is, I know that." Neither Keesha nor V spoke. So Sonny continued. "He was my step-father. And the worst man to ever live..." Sonny wanted to stand, and go to the corner wall, but he was chained to his side of the desk. So he simply looked down. "He beat my mother...all the time. He would smack me around a few times...and then...and then he'd throw me in the closet. And I could hear her crying...hear him slapping her..." his voice trailed off. Keesha took a deep breath. That would, in fact, explain a lot of why Sonny was the way he was. "He deserved to die." Sonny looked up once more. "So you killed him?" V asked. "He deserved to die. But I guess that your lover doesn't agree." "What?..." "When I found out that Jax was digging, I decided it was time for the pig to know the truth. All he did was smirk. And people say Jason's cold." V couldn't beleive that. It didn't sound like something Marcus would do. Except this *was* Sonny. She continued to look at him, not asking any more questions. "What makes you think Jax is digging into anything?" "Because, Keesha, that's what Jax does. Besides, someone told me." "Who?" "A source." "And you called us here, why?" "Would I joke about something like that. Your wife, and my girlfriend are in there right now, visiting Corinthos. That explains why I was given the afternoon shift off..Jax?" Taggert listened to the dial tone. Jax raced out of his office, heading to the police station. "Because I thought maybe you two would actually possibly give thought to what I'm saying. The copper didn't. Jax wouldn't. Maybe you would." "So, you want us to stop something?" "What? You don't beleive me." Keesha leaned back in her chair. "Actually, I do. And I'm sorry. But the terror you went through doesn't give you the right to grow up and use that as an excuse to terrorize everyone else. So though I beleive you...I don't care." She got up and walked over to the door, knocking. Keesha watched as a few moments later, V came out of the room, walking over to her. "One second...Jax, it's me, call me as soon as you can, okay?" she finished and hung up. "What?" "So you really think he's telling the truth?" Keesha shrugged. "I wouldn't put it past him to lie and play on our sympathies. But at the same time, it really does make a lot of sense. Then again, I truely don't care-about him now. Though I am very sorry he grew up in such a household. For him and the rest of the world. What about you." "I don't know...it puts a whole new spin on a lot of things...not just Sonny. It makes me wonder..." if Marcus was the decent guy she always thought he was. "It just makes me wonder..." V turned as Jax came jogging into the station. "What are you two doing?" he asked, somewhat breathless. "I have to find Marcus." V excused herself and left Jax and Keesha in the station. "Sonny wanted to see me." "Why?" "Because he..." she took his hand and pulled him to the side, away from the officers. "He found out you were digging into his past." "How would...never mind. So he found out..." "He found out and wanted to tell me and V about what it was like growing up with Deke. How abusive he was. And he sounds horrifically abusive." "Why would Sonny tell you that?" "So we could convince you to leave him alone I would guess." Jax nodded. "Do you beleive him?" "Yes." "But...Sonny wouldn't share that information..." Jax sat down on the empty desk. "Not right now...he wasn't even due to go up for trial for Deke's murder right now. That is something he would say...last minute..." "You think he's up to more." she surmised. "Much more. Bigger...I need to find Jerry. Are you ready?" "Yes." Jax and Keesha were on their way out of the police station when they saw 3 officers running down the hall, followed by a couple of paramedics. They stopped and watched...trailing was an officer informing Mac that a prisioner was just found hanging in his cell. V looked over at Taggert. "Don't you have anything to say." "About Sonny killing himself? No." he stood from the couch. "Nothing at all?" "What's wrong with you, V? What did he say to you?" "What do you...you were *SPYING* on me?" "If anyone knows about *spying* it's you..." Peter came running down the stairs. "What's going on here?" "Nothing." V took her keys from the table. "Absolutely nothing." she glared at Marcus. "I don't even know you." she finished, her voice calm and cold as she stormed out. "V!" Peter watched as Marcus called after her, running to catch up with her. Peter looked over at the tv, turning it off. "How do you feel?" Jax asked Keesha cautiously. "I don't know." They had waited in the police station until most of the media had left the area. Now, Jax wished they had just dealt with the reporters as he studied Keesha while she looked as they placed Sonny's dead body into the ambulance. "I mean, I wished for his death sometimes. A lot. But..." she sighed. "I don't know...I can't beleive he actually killed himself. I mean, I just saw him and now...he was *here*." she looked over at Jax. "And the next moment, he doesn't exist anymore. I mean...I just saw him, Jax." Keesha shook her head as the reality of death-even Sonny's death-continued to make its way into her mind. "I know." Jax rubbed her shoulders silently. "The thing is..." Keesha turned her head and looked at him. "What?" "Part of me wonders...I wonder if that was the very point." Keesha looked ahead once more as Jax's phone rang. "Yes." she heard him answer. "I hate to bother you..." "V...are you okay?" "I need a place to stay for a few days, and I was..." "Yes, you can stay with us....can you tell me what's wrong." he asked quietly. "Did you know about Sonny...and Deke?" Jax shook his head. "Only when Keesha told me." "See...I knew that. You know how, because it might have meant something to you. At least you wouldn't have found it amusing..." she wiped the tears from her face. "Unlike Marcus." "V..." "I'll be by at 6:00 or so, if that's okay." V went into her cop tone and Jax knew she wanted to drop the subkect. "Yes. You have a key still, don't you. In case I'm not home yet." "Yes. Thanks Jax. I won't be there long." and before he answered, she hung up. Jax went back to rubbing Keesha's shoulders as the ambulance pulled off. "Honey...when you can...if you can...I need for you to tell me all you remember about what was..." he watched as she reached into her purse, handing him a mini tape recorder. "Alex let me in with it." Jax turned out the light in the guest room, closing the door so V's sleep wouldn't be disturbed. He went back upstairs to check on Keesha, who was also sleeping in their bedroom. Sonny knew exactly what he was doing...he wanted them to be the last to see him alive. Any sorrow he could feel for Sonny was completely wiped out by that fact. And he wasn't going to let him destroy another aspect of Keesha's life, not to mention V's. Jax walked downstairs once more, going into the his office where Jerry was finishing his listen of the tape. "...When I found out that Jax was digging, I decided it was time for the pig to know the truth. All he did was smirk. And people say Jason's cold." Jerry turned off the tape. "You're right. He wanted to leave as big of a mess as possible. What I want to know is...who let him in on all this." Jax simply looked at Jerry. "You think it was Miranda I assume. You think everything is Miranda. And I'm really getting sick of it." "I'm already sick of her." "Proof?" Jerry sighed. "No of course not but..." "Then leave your suspicions to yourself." The panic started as soon as the drug wore off and his heart started beating again. Helena had told him the drug was perfectly safe, that Katherine was living proof of it working-so he didn't worry about taking it. But being caught in here, in this small drawer with no way out...Sonny thought he would really die in here. He took deep breaths, trying not to panic. Finally he heard the drawer opening. He laid still, praying the medical examiner wasn't back. "Sonny..." Hannah sobbed as she threw the cover off. Sonny leaned up, hugging her tightly as she cried that it worked over and over. "Are you sure you want to come with me?" Hannah nodded. "I need to be with you...." her heart stopped as the door opened. She sighed as she saw Miranda. "Thank you." "Don't mention it." she walked in. "You'll be glad to know that V and Taggert have seperated. Nice little bonus for a job well done." she smiled at Sonny. "So what are you going to do now?" "Now, I'm going to leave Jax the teeniest bit of proof I was behind you finding out he was digging into your past. Just enough for him to go to Jerry with it, but not enough for Jerry to beleive him....oops." "Oops?" Sonny stood from the cold examination tray. "Helena warned me about telling secrets. Guess I have no choice now." Sonny and Hannah looked as the door opened once more. Their eyes grew big at the sight of the gun. Keesha came downstairs, passing the guest room. She paused at the doorway as inside she heard Jax, repeating softly that there was nothing V could have done, pointing out that perhaps Marcus just didn't beleive Sonny and that was where the reaction Sonny told her about came from. Pointing out that Sonny could have lied in any event, about that or the whole thing. And asking V if she understood what was Sonny's likely real motive in all of this. V nodded. "Then don't let him take up any more of your life. I let him take up too much of mine." V nodded again. "But it still doesn't make me feel any less..." "I know." Jax reached over and hugged her. Keesha left her spot and and exited the house, going down the patio. She had just reached the sidewalk when she heard, "Hi." She jumped and turned. "Oh. Hi Peter." "I'm on the lookout for Marcus, for V. I know she's staying with you. Can you tell me if she's okay." "I'm sure she'll be fine. She has a lot of emotions going through her right now. Excuse me..." Keesha left, leaving Peter on the sidewalk alone. Jax closed the shades. "I'm coming!" he called to V and headed into the kitchen. Something about that Peter man was...wrong. He was everywhere. He seemed to know too much. Hell, Jacks wasn't a very uncommon surname, but Keesha had joked that right away when Marcus introduced them at the airport, he had guessed right Jax was her husband. Jax stopped in his tracks. "Yes." "I actually think Keesha will be okay." Peter's southern accent suddenly became Austrailan. "Oh. I suppose she's stronger than I gave her credit for. What about the other job." "Well...Miranda wanted to know why, but she didn't put up a fight, and I did it...of course it looks like I did it for her. Not you. In any event the Corinthos' are both dead." Helena smiled. Into the phone she said. "Very good my love. Your step-brother was right...you are a good person to know. Send Benjamin my regards." Peter hung up and darted across the street to his car. Shani
