Chapter 45

(Author's note-I'm using some creative liscencing here because there's part of Sonny's history I plain forgot, including certain names-must be selective memory *g*) Carly walked slowly up to Hannah as they watched the apartment complex burn. "Sorry." Carly found herself saying, and actually meaning. Hannah shook her head-her and Sonny had spent so much time there-there were so many memories for her. Now they were all gone. "I guess I should thank my boss, for making me work a double shift." Carly shook her head. Of course Hannah had to work, Hannah had to be gone, so that Jerry could burn the building down. She was sure of it. Taggert paced Jason's cell, glaring. "Trying to get back into your master's good graces?" Jason stared back silently. "Burning down his home? What were you hiding?...ANSWER ME!" Garcia knocked against the cell bars. Taggert turned and looked at him. "Let me out, Errand Boy is too stupid to answer...even though *this* little stunt, is just another in a long line of charges. You're never getting out...." "So, I see you took my advice." Jax said as he sat down across from V. "About quitting L&B and doing investigative work with Felicia? How do you know?" "Because Ned called me this morning, swearing up a storm." "I never told Ned that you gave me advice." "Of course not, I did last night...just to make him sweat it out over the evening." Jax laughed. V shook her head. "Why do you do that?" "Because I can. And now, I can pay you for all the work you do for me anyway. Speaking of which..." Jax placed his briefcase on the table. "How would you like to learn even more about my pal Corinthos..." Keesha paused at the news of the fire. Hopefully Hannah wasn't home. She turned down the radio and continued her third read of Elizabeth's term paper. "Yes?" she looked up at the knock. "Hi." "Hi." she smiled at Jax. "What have you got behind your back?" Jax shrugged. "I don't know what you're talking about." Keesha stood up, walking over to the front of the desk. "You know, we're already married, you can stop *wooing* me now." she tried to peak around him. Jax stepped out of the way. "If anyone desrves to be consistently *wooed*, it's you." he answered, a twinkle in his eyes. "Besides, I just can't help myself. Things like these..." Jax pulled his arm from around his back and watched Keesha's face light up as she stared at the bouquet of white roses. "...make your eyes illuminate. And I love that." Keesha looked up at Jax, smiling. "Thank you." she reached out and took the flowers from him. "I love them." "And me?" "I adore you." Jax grinned at her, and Keesha found herself lost in his eyes once more. She sighed softly and looked away from them. She came closer to him, giving him a hug. Finally, reaching up, she placed a small kiss on his chin. Jax laughed. "Excuse me..." Elizabeth knocked softly. "We are meeting right?" "Right." Keesha let Jax go. He fought the urge to push away the strand of hair that had fell over her eyes and just gave her another smile. "I'll see you soon?" Keesha nodded, and watched as Jax left. "Okay...this is a vast improvement from your first paper...." she stated to Liz. V walked into her house. "Marc?" Peter came downstairs from the guest room. "He's having a bad day." he managed a smile. "Oh, it's that anniversary. I forgot." Taggert's ex-partner at the NYPD died on this day. That was all V knew, he hated to talk about it and she didn't like to bring up the pain for him. In fact, she had a problem seeing Marcus in pain at all-she never knew what to do to make him feel better. "I think he wants to be alone. Would you like to maybe show me around." V nodded. "That's probably best." she answered. Taggert looked up from the phone as he heard the door close. "Dara..." "I'm still here." "Officer Deke Corinthos..." Jax stared at the file he had found in the envelope waiting in his mailbox. "Stellar career...how in the world did he raise someone to turn out like Sonny..." Jax mumbled to himself. He looked at the attached newspaper article. "Officer murdered...police suspect mob hit...." Keesha having just come downstairs, peaked over Jax's shoulder. "Although the DA would not confirm it, sources say that Officer Corinthos' step-son, Michael Corinthos, is a major suspect in the case." she read outloud. "He killed his own step-father?" Keesha actually found herself shocked. "Here's another...just 2 years ago..10th anniversary of an unsolved murder case...they never arrested anyone for it. Sonny got away scott free." "I wonder who that is?" Keesha sat next to Jax on the couch. "Who?" Jax scanned the article. Keesha pointed and he read, "Deke Corinthos' partner at the time, an officer in Port Charles, New York, who asked not to be identified still remembers Deke fondly..." he looked at Keesha. "I don't know. But I plan to find out." Shani
