Chapter 29

"Hi." Keesha gave Jax a small kiss after he came home from work. "You
do remember we have company tonight, don't you?"
"Mac and Felicia. This isn't some half-baked scheme you two ladies
came up with, like her and Bobbie is it?"
Keesha looked at him perplexed, taking his briefcase from him and
placing it on the floor underneath the small table next to the door.
"Bobbie and Felicia decided Mac and Jer should be friends. So they
concocted this grand idea of having dinner together, where they would
listen to each side of why Jerry and Mac didn't like each other, and
make a ruling on who was right and who was wrong." Jax walked over
to the sofa.
"So who won?" Keesha came up, kneeling behind him on the couch and
massaging his shoulders. Jax bent his head quietly. "Don't leave me
hanging here." she smiled.
"No one. I think the point was just to have Jerry and Mac talk it out."
"Hmm..."
"Don't hmm like that....lower..."
Keesha pressed down on the knot at the base of his neck. "There?..."
Jax moaned his response. "So how long did this truce last - two seconds?"
Jax laughed. He took her hands, bringing them around so he could kiss
them both. "About."
"You can't make people get along." Keesha stood from the couch, coming
in front of him. "How do you feel?"
"Fine." Jax looked up at her with a smile.
"Great...now come on and help me."
Now it was Jax's turn to look quizzical. "Help?"
"You know, help me with dinner. You plan on eating don't you?"
"Of course I plan on eating. But..."
"No buts. I don't run a restaurant. We..." she pointed at herself and
back at Jax. "...are going to fix our friends' dinner. I did a lot of
it already..."
"Thank God..."
"But there's things you can do to help me."
"Oh Keesha..." Jax turned his nose up at the thought of being domestic
for an evening. "I've got it, why don't I get some food, and we'll
stick it in a plate..."
"You do want to help me...don't you?" Keesha tilted her head and gave
Jax a coy, brilliant smile.
"Okay...okay...." Jax got up from the sofa, loosening his tie and
taking off his suit jacket. "But next time we pay people for this...."
"Then we might as well take them out to dinner, Jax."
"Ah ha! Now she gets it." Jax came up behind her and Keesha giggled
as he picked her up, carrying her into the kitchen.
Felicia finished off her wine. "Dinner was wonderful, thank you
Keesha."
"Keesha?" Jax looked at her. "I fixed dinner."
"You?!" Mac and Felicia stated in unison.
"You know how it is...someone who rarely sets foot in the kitchen,
dares to actually peel some potatoes or something, and they feel
they're Julia Child," Keesha teased Jax with a wink.
"Hey, if I didn't peel the potatoes, then there would have been no
potatoes au gratin a la Keesha, now would there?"
"Perhaps I should change the name." she stood, kissing Jax on the
cheek as she took his plate from him. "I suppose clearing the table is
up to me...since you fixed this fabulous meal by yourself."
Jax leaned back in his chair and smiled.
"You let him get away with that?" Felica stated, semi-unamused.
"Hey, stop trying to instigate." Jax laughed.
"I said I was clearing the table. I didn't say I was loading the
dishes."
Jax turned and shook his head at her. "Sneaky."
"Get up and help..." Felicia smacked Mac on his arm.
"Yes, Ma'am." Mac stood dutifully.
"And that Keesha, is how you train a man..." Felicia glanced over at
Jax for a response.
Jax poured Felicia another glass of wine. "Would you like to sit down
in the living room?"
Felicia stood, taking her wine and following Jax out of the main dining
area, into the living room. "Is this where you tell me I'm the
opposite of a male chauvinist pig? Like Mac does?"
"If I were Mac, I would count my lucky stars that you actually cared
enough to want to train me, as you say."
"Oh, flattery will get you everywhere." Felicia laughed, and sat down
on the sofa. "This really is a beautiful home."
"That's Keesha's doing."
"She was in charge of decorating?"
"No. Nothing physically has changed since she's been here. But she
made it a home...instead of just a house."
"How cute."
"Don't patronize me," Jax laughed as he stood, walking over to the
stereo.
"I'm not." she said seriously.
"She means the world to me."
"And you to her. I can tell."
Jax came over and sat down next to Felicia once more. "It was really
hard you know, when she was being held captive at Luke's...I didn't
know what would happen...if I would see her again." He swirled his wine
around in his glass, looking inside of it.
"I can imagine." Felicia admitted as she cautiously placed a hand on
his back. She had a lot of the same fears when Mac went to work. "If
it makes you feel better, Mac is still working hard on finding out who
did this..."
"Is he?" Jax turned and looked at her.
"I have something for you." Keesha opened the refigerator and pulled
out a Foster's beer.
Mac's eyes lit up. The wine was good, but he really missed sitting
down with a nice tall can of Foster's. "Thank you so much." He took
the beer. "Where are your glasses?"
"Please, use the can. You know you want to," Keesha teased.
"So, can you give lessons to Felicia?...You let Jax take credit for
your meals...Have beer stored in the fridge for your guests..." Keesha
laughed. "I should get a glass...Felicia, not to mention Jax I'm sure,
would kill me if I walked out without one."
"So drink it in here, it will be our little secret."
Mac opened the can and took a drink. He leaned up against the opposite
counter from Keesha. "You must be good for Jax."
"Thank you, I think." Mac smiled. "How so?"
"Well, I'm always expecting Jax to interfere in something that he has
no business interfering in. But I don't know if it's because he has
you around, or because you have a good influence on him, like you do
with most people...but so far, there's been none...no interference.
Because you do know that interfering is dangerous," Mac added quietly,
obviously warning her.
Keesha nodded with a small smile. She wished both Jax and Jerry would
forget about Luke's. But she knew it wasn't going to happen. First of
all Jax was convinced that it could tie into Miranda. But more
importantly, as he told her, because he just couldn't...not until the
person who did this to her was caught. And she knew it was a waste of
time arguing, because she would feel the exact same if something like
that ever happened to him.
"Jax...don't interfere." Felicia stood from the sofa.
"Why is wanting to know who held my wife hostage interference?"
Felicia tried to come up with an answer, but couldn't. "I just want
him caught. I'm sure Mac does too, and you...because of Miranda. But
you should know, sometimes the police can't get everything....and when
I went to visit the police department recently I was told they were
stalled. What does that mean?" he shook his head. "I need to know who
did this to her...how they connect to Luke..."
"Connect to Luke?"
"Felicia, there was an escape hatch at Luke's, I'm sure you know. It's
been sealed. Who else would seal it , except for Luke. And why did
he?"
"It's sealed?" It didn't even occur to Felicia to ask how Jax knew of
this. All she wanted to know was how did this person know about the
emergancy exit...and why did Luke seal it.
