The Birth of Mewtwo covers the creation of Mewtwo at the hands of Team Rocket, and the events that lead up to it. It introduces many new characters, including the mothers of both Jessie and Giovanni. Parenthood seems to be a major theme of this drama. Dr. Fuji, the scientist working for Team Rocket to create Mewtwo, is both trying to create new life and to restore the life of his dead child via cloning. This drama greatly expands on the events of the first Pokemon movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back.
