A once sheperd from the Two Rivers, Rand finds out that he is not only a ta'veren that can channel the One Power, but is also The Dragon Reborn, a man destined to fight the Dark One in the Last Battle and in doing so both save and break the world. He also finds out that he is the Car'a'carn of the Aiel and the leader of the Sea Folk. He also has three lovers.

Matrim Cauthon is a young man from the Two Rivers who is also ta'veren. Mat is a trixter with uncanny luck who likes to gamble and chase women. After entering a strange ter'angreal, Mat finds out that he has acquired the memories and experiences of men from the past. Mat is able to call on these memories to command a group of soldiers called The Band of the Red Hand into battle. As the man that sounded the legendary Horn of Valere, he is essential to Rand's victory in Tarmon Gai'don.

Another young man from the Two Rivers that is ta'veren. Perrin comes to find out that he has the very rare ability to communicate with wolves, as well as see, smell and hear like one. He returns to the Two Rivers to save them from the Shadow, and becomes their Lord. Perrin is in some way vital to Rand winning Tarmon Gai'don, but right now he is trying to survive his very jealous wife.

Egwene is a young lady from the Two Rivers that learns that she will be an Aes Sedai that is strong in the One Power and a Dreamer.

A young woman who is the Daughter-Heir to the crown of Andor after her mother Morgase. She is also very strong in the One Power and has a Talent in the making of ter'angreal, the first in a very, very long time. She is one of Rands girlfriends.

A tough young woman that often is found to wear pants than a dress. She has the ability to see images and auras about a person or their future when she looks at them. She is also one of Rands lovers.

A very spirited young Aiel woman. Once a maidin of the spear, Aviendha is now reluctantly apprentenced to be a Aiel Wise One that will be able to channel, and strongly. She becomes Rand's lover as well.

Moirain Sedai of the Blue Ajah. Fulfilling her life long quest, Moirain tries to guide the Dragon Reborn to his destiny. Unfortunately, she plans on doing this her way, at any cost. Very Intelligent and fairly strong in the One Power, Moiraine's adventures are making sure she is fast becoming a Legend among Aes Sedai.
