So Much For The Afterglow

On this page I will put up a full review of So Much For The Afterglow.
The albums are rated on a scale of 1 () to 5 ().
So Much For The Afterglow is Everclear's third album. It is of particular interest due to the fact that it is their first album after their commercial success. Everclear took this opportunity to "spread its creative oats." Sampling, keyboards, and horns made it into this album. The increased variety made this the most interesting album. That’s not necessarily a good comment. Gone are the rageing guitar lines of "Heroin Girl" and "Your Genius Hand." In are the "Pet Sounds" vocal harmonies and horn parts. The songs may be a bit more subdued, but the lyrics are as poignant and cutting as always. The album starts with a homage to the Beach Boys. This leads into the title song, "So Much For The Afterglow." The next track is the first single from the album, "Everything to Everyone." This is followed by a sound clip from what sounds like a 70’s informational movie on anti-depressants, which is followed by "Normal Like You." The second single from the album is "I Will Buy You a New Life." The rest of the album is "Father of Mine," "So Much for the Afterglow," "Everything to Everyone," "Ataraxia," "Normal Like You," "I Will Buy You a New Life," "Father of Mine," "One Hit Wonder," "El Distortio de Melodica (Instrumental)," "Amphetamine," "White Men in Black Suits," "Sunflowers," "Why I Don't Believe in God," "Like A California King," and "I'll Be Hating You For Christmas." This album is definitely worth buying. It has had almost exclusive playing time on my CD player. This is not saying that the album on itself is of the highest quality, but that when compared to the majority of albums released today, it is better that most. This said, I feel that I can’t rate this album in comparison to the majority of albums released today. I can only rate it compared to what Everclear has done before. When compared to Everclear’s previous work it isn’t quit as good. It lacks the shear intensity than their previous effort. There are no songs like "The Fire Maple Song," "Santa Monica," and "13 Years (Ya, I know it’s a Colofinger song, so sue me). If you are looking into your first buying your first Everclear album, don’t go with this one, but if you are looking for a good solid album, buy it. Did you hear me, I said buy, go on.
