Tips for Better Flute Playing
Playing flute is hard, but on this page I will give you tips for better playing. Remember, you need to practice often, and take private lessons if possible to become a good player. Also, be sure to take good care of your flute. Don't ever drop it, and always clean it out after you play.
Ways to Improve Your Flute Playing
- Sit up straight and hold up your head, otherwise you will go very flat.
- Make sure that your right thumb isn't sliding under the flute, causing your fingers to not really cover the keys
- Don't roll in when you play low notes.
- Practice everyday!!!
- Always clean out your flute after playing it.
- Practice hard passages very slowly at first, then work them up to tempo.
- Learn your scales! Being able to play in all keys will help you, and you'll need to know scales for most auditions
- Use a metronome!
How to Fight Nerves
- Forget about the audience or judges. Just imagine you are playing alone.
- Eat a banana beforehand. (I have no idea why, but it really helps)
- Don't speed up because you're nervous!! Get the right notes, even if it means going a little under tempo.
- If you make a mistake, just keep going. Chances are that most people won't even notice!
