..."Mothman"
There have been recent siting on a mysterious creature called "mothman" lately. First sighted in the 60s on Route 2 of Chief Cornstalk Hunting Grounds of West Virginia, USA, mothman is said to look like a man from far away, but when closer, it is seen that the mothman is actually much larger than a normal sized man and has wings which unfold from his back. The wings take up the span of a road. The mothman CAN fly and flew away on that day in 1960 in West Virgina.
Hundreds of people have seen the mothman, in fact, the mothman was later spotted several times in Point Pleasent, West Virgina. He is gray and stands between 6 and 7 feet tall. His eyes were later noted to be red and the man himself was a grayish color. The moth can keep up with incredible speeds; over 100 mph! The mothman has not been seen since 1966.
For the next twelve months a large number of sightings took place. Perhaps the most infamous involves two adults and an infant on November 16, 1966. After visiting friends, the trio stepped outside of the house and began to walk to their cars when suddenly a large figure rose from behind the vehicles. One of the women, Marcella Bennett, was so frightened by the creature that she dropped her baby. As the creature unfolded its gigantic wings, Raymond Wamsley scooped up the child and dragged the stunned women into the house. The trio later claimed the creature was a "big gray thing" that was "bigger then a man." The creature had no distinct head but a large stump that rose from its shoulders. The creature then followed them to the porch, where it emitted strange sounds and looked inside the windows. By the time the police arrived, however, the creature was gone.
People (specifically author John Keel) have linked the sighting of the mothman with reportings of UFOs and men in black who had recently been visiting the area (for you X-files fans; Mulder and Scully?). Many other strange occurances had been going on; such as appliances failing or stopping at random*. He concluded that the UFO reports and the Mothman sightings and even the collapse of the 700-foot-high Silver Bridge at Point Pleasant were connected to a race of "ultraterrestrials" who would do anything to remain secret.
There are several theories as to what the mothman actually IS. The most common is that witnesses mistook a Sandhill Crane or an owl for mothman. These known animals, combined with fear and wild imaginations could have created the image of the mothman. What is your theory? Would you care to share it? E-mail me at Agent_Scully_FBI@mailcity.com.
*These appliance failures can be explained many MANY ways. First, it was all a coincidence. Second, it was the 60s. LOTS of appliances failed; they were new, they weren't perfect. Third; did anyone AT ALL think about an electricity faliure in the city? DUH!
