"Cookie Mueller was a writer, a mother, an outlaw, an actress, a fashion designer, a go-go dancer, a witch-doctor, an art-hag, and above all, a goddess. Boy, do I miss that girl." -John Waters
She was born in Baltimore in 1949.
"Somehow I got the name Cookie before I could walk. It didn't matter to me, they could call me whatever they wanted." -Cookie Mueller
Her first film was John
Waters'; Multiple
Maniacs released in 1970. She met Waters at the world premiere
of his earlier film
Mondo Trasho and he immediately recognized her
"star power". She went on to make several movies with Waters, as well as
a few for underground directors Amos Poe, and
Eric Mitchell.
Recently, an anthology of her writings was released
entitled Ask Dr. Mueller featuring highlights from all of her books,
and her
articles from Details Magazine and The East Village
Eye. You can read some of these in the stories
section. Cookie died of
AIDS related illness in 1989, but this site is
a place to remember her through pictures, movies, and her wonderful stories.
