Detail of "The Dream" by Pierre Puvis de Chavannes

Poem of Dreams

In a place beyond time
Among the clouds of infinite
perfection, in a dream
I wandered in mind and
mingled with the eternal
sighs of a heavenly passion
A passion far beyond mortal
considerations
An intense being of
a quality beyond most human
imaginations
Here in the pale blue silky
breezes of the universe
I caressed the surf of a
thousand rolling mists of saints

In my dream of dreams
Imagining myself in
perpetual ecstasy
Climaxing in the midst
of a field of angels
Our souls in communal
worship of creation
High in the clouds
of dreams unsurpassed
I dreamt this way
today

Sitting quietly amidst
the decaying end
of a dreary winter of life
Fresh buds caressing now
the blessed tree of saints
And breathing deeply,
passionately of the
fiber of life's effusion
I found myself in
conversation with
angels
Spirits beyond earthy
vision
In a world of reality
unreal
I dreamt of
ecstasy and creation
Of a life of purpose, divine
And I was filled
with a vitality
beyond earthly boundaries
In my dream of dreams
