I Love You

There is a longing in my heart
to be with you
It does not go away but
rather intensifies
My forearms ache with
the pain of this absence
My heart is dull with
the presence of your shadow
In a memory in my mind
where just a while ago-
There was you
How can this be, why?
Life's simple pleasures are
surely little enough to
ask for
To sit and embrace, to
talk in whispers
Smile, listen, look at
each other
To rest quietly, peacefully
in each others arms
In the early hours to
make love, or not make
love
To awaken together, refreshed
or not, and smile
Another day in each others
company, in love
But, now we are apart,
alone, denied those
simple things
Why, why such longing?
I love you
