Detail of "The Dream" by Pierre Puvis de Chavannes
I awoke
I awoke, restless
It was nearly midnight
The candle was lighting
the room
In a magical interplay
Rich shadows of warm
spirits
Rapturing the
green walls
I awoke from
an erotic dream
Of you in the arms
of another
It was so vivid
It was like
a release
Then sadness
overcame me
I awoke, and
realized
that all was changed
now
A time had ended
A new one had
commenced
Our souls
for that brief moment
were reconnected
There was a feeling
Arousal
I awoke, anxious
I could see another
place
Ecstasy and
excitement
And I was on fire
Wanting it, too
But it was a
dream
I think
I awoke, and
wrote this poem
Capturing a feeling
A vision
in a dream
Of you and
another
Like we used to
be
And I wished
that it was so . . .
Though, it was
only a dream
And surely
had no reality
I wrote it so
And could not
sleep
For it seemed for
a moment
I was with you there
I, awoke
And the candle
you gave me
went out
12.30am
