End of Nature by Michael Whelan

A single tear

I reached over
but you weren't there
It was pitch dark
The candle
had died
It was an indescribable
desolate world
You gone
Me here
I had such
an overwhelming desire
To pull you near
And soothe your fears
Your tears
But there was
emptiness
in my waking mind
And in my dying heart
dull pain
I missed you so
And in the dark
I felt your sorrow
And a single tear
chilled my thoughts
As I reached out
and tried to touch you
across the miles
of desolation
