Canoeing/ TubingCamping Trip
August 24 - 26, 2001

Attention Scouts and Scouters:

Registration deadline: August 16 Troop meeting

Troop 613 is planning a camping trip to the Shenandoah River State Park, August 24 - 26, 2001 south of Front Royal in Bentonville, VA. This camping trip will canoeing and tubing on the Shenandoh River via equipment provided by Shenandoah River Trips, a local outfitter.

BSA "Safety Afloat" requirements for moving water canoeing are in effect for this trip. You must have a watercraft merit badge to participate in the canoe trip.

Scouts must be rated as a BSA Swimmer to participate in the canoeing or the tubing activity on this trip.

A "Float Plan" per BSA requirements is provided below on this page.

The cost of this weekend trip is $45.00 which includes camping, food, and canoe or tube rentals.

 

Please return the Permission Form below by the August 16 Troop meeting so appropriate plans can be made.

Permission Form: Please complete one form for each scout attending.

I give permission for _________________ to attend the Troop 613 Canoeing/Tubing Trip August 24 - 26, 2001. I understand that BSA Safety Afloat requirements for moving water canoeing will be in effect for this trip. I authorize adult leaders to authorize emergency medical treatment as necessary in the event that I can not be reached in an expeditious manner.

Scouts using funds from their scout account must verify that funds in the account are sufficient to do so from Mrs. Trudel. Scouts should maintain a positive balance in their account.

Depart Columbia for Shenandoah River State Park, Bentonville, VA
Set up camp

Saturday, August 25, 2001
6:30 - 8:00

Rise and Shine - Patrols cook Breakfast

8:00 - 8:30

Review Safety Afloat and Canoe Safe Use Instructions

9:30- 3:30

Scouts tubing will start at the Low Water Bridge on Route 613 and tube 3-4 miles to the campsite in the State Park. (took us 5 hours last year)
Scouts canoeing will be transported upstream to Seekford's Landing area for 12 mile downstream canoe trip - 4-5 hours

noon - 1:00

Lunch on the water at point to be determined by leaders

Scouts will return to camp for dinner preparations, evening campfire, etc.
