"Molly could you drive me to the music store?" I asked, as I approached my sister in the dining room. I was in the mood for some *N Sync and had been meaning to buy their c.d for a while. Like I said earlier, I enjoy them. "Not now Madison. I'm tired" "Tired? It's three in the afternoon, you're not supposed to be tired." "Well" she retaliated "I am" "Fine" I ended it, walking away. I didn't bother fighting anymore because I knew Molly would win, she always did afterall. I skipped up the steps and decided to ask Taylor if he'd go with me. We could rollerblade there. I knocked on his closed door and waited for him to open it. He didn't. Confused I walked into my room and through the joining doors. I found Taylor flipping through some magazine with his headphones on. "Hey" he said when he noticed me in the doorway He pulled off his headphones and went from laying down to sitting up. "Wanna go somewhere?" I asked, walking to him. "Not really. Why?" "I wanted to go to the music store" "Oh" Taylor got up, went to the closet and pulled out a shirt "I'll go then, it's okay. It's not far right?" "No" I said, as I smiled. I always loved this about our friendship, we were willing to do things for each other, even if we didn't want to. ||||| "Taylor I don't wanna go to the store" "Why not" 10-year old Taylor asked me. "Because it's hot and sticky out" And it was. That June Tulsa day had reached a peak of 97 degrees. The sun wasn't shining, but the humidity was unbearable. "So .." Taylor went on "It's only around the corner. Come on Mad, they got the new X-men cards" I sighed "Fine, I'll go" ||||| The cool air felt great as Taylor and I entered "Music World". I glanced over my shoulder at taylor who was wiping some sweat off his forehead. He was dressed incognito. A white hat hid his blonde hair and a plair of dark sun glasses shielded his recognizable blue eyes. Just so he didn't look so covered up, I too had wore my fishing hat and a pair of sun glasses. I wore shorts which I was thankful for and a tank top. It was hot, and my atire certanly proved it. "I'm gonna look over here" I called to Taylor as I walked towards the "popular" wall. I saw Taylor nod and walk over towards the music magazines. I quickly skimed the wall for *N Sync, and found it quickly. I walked over to Taylor who had a copy of "Rolling Stone" in his hand. "You buying that?" I asked. Taylor finished the article, closed the magazine and answered "Nah, it's a crapy issue" "Oh" "So" he said placing his arm around my neck "What did you get?" I handed him the c.d and knew what was coming "N Sync?. You're gonna waste your money on this crap" "Yes, and it's not crap. Now this" I said picking up a copy of 'Middle of Nowhere' "Is crap" "Ha" he said snatching his c.d out of my hand and placing it down "You're sooo funny" We both laughed as we made our way over to the counter. I was surprised as Taylor pulled off his sunglasses when we reached the couner. As I looked over to the cashier, I realized why he did it. The lady behind the counter who's tag read "Ruth" was very attractive. She was definitly a Hawaii native with long black wavy hair and what seemed like, a natural tan. "14.35, m'am" she said after scanning my c.d "I got it" Taylor said handing the cashier 15.00 "Why did you do that?" I asked wondering why he had paid for me. He just gave me a wink and accepted his change. After the cashier had recognized Taylor and asked for an autograph, we left the store and re-entered the heat. "Here" I said shoving fifteen dollars towards him. "I don't want it" Without looking at me he pushed it away. "Why did you pay for me?" I asked again. "Because I wanted to" And that was his answer. "Come on Madlor, run. There's the bus" home || next |
