The Release

Jake, Marco, and Rachel are in a classroom. Their teacher, Mr. Perkins, is talking about survival in the wilderness. Jake and Marco joke around. Mr. Perkins tells the class to think of five things that would help them survive in the wilderness. He takes out a jar of crickets, pulls one out, and eats it. This causes groans around the classroom, but Marco (of course) laughs. Jake and Rachel look at him like he was insane. The bell rings and everyone starts to leave. Rachel leans towards Marco and whispers that that could have been one of them. Realization hits Marco and he gets up to leave. Once everyone is out of the classroom, Mr. Perkins opens up his hand and reveals (ta-da) the cricket.

Marco is at his locker. He looks up and sees Mr. Perkins come staggering down the hall looking really sick. Marco watches him stumble by and says that that's what he gets for eating crickets. Mr. Perkins gets to his office and picks up the phone. He says that it's 557 and that he'll take care of things on his end. Then he says that they won't see him for the rest of the day and hangs up.

(Opening Credits)

Marco is at Cyberia telling Rachel, Cassie, Jake and Ax what happened. Rachel says that she thought that Mr. Perkins was trying to say something to them because all of a sudden he's talking aboutsurvival in the wilderness and going without food. Marco says that he thinks Perkins is cool. Jake points to a girl who has just come in talking about yeerks and being free. Jake tells Cassie and Ax to go to the barn and wait for him and for Marco to create a diversion. He and Rachel go over to the girl, right after two controllers reach her. The controllers tell Jake that she's a friend of theirs and that they'll take her home. Jake's just like, great, and as he turns around to leave Marco slams his plate of food onto the front of Jakes shirt. Marco gets a "Don't kill me" expression on his face, and Jake, looking a little mad, says even better.

I don't know where they are, but Visser one is chewing out Visser Three. Their conversation ends with Visser One threatening Visser Three.

Ax, Tobias, and Cassie are waiting in the barn when Rachel, Jake, and Marco walk in saying that they didn't get her. Ax says that he heard about a highly contageous flu epidemic on the radio, and that the authorities are quarenteeing everyone that's infected. Jake thinks that it must have something to do with them destroying the Kandrona. Tobias says that they destoyed it weeks ago, why would it be happening only now? Ax says that they might have had another one that has finally broken down. Rachel says that this is big, controllers being free again. No way can they keep 100 people screaming about yeerks covered up. Marco says that maybe they'll finally see, that the truth is out there.

Visser Three and Principle Chapman walk into a room. Principle Chapman says that Mr. Perkins is in charge of rounding up the student hosts. Visser Three asks about Iniss (?) 335, the one inside of Tom. Principle Chapman responds by saying that he is on their priority list.

Tom is in bed, shivering, bundled up in his covers. His mother walks in carrying a tray with chicken soup. As she walks out, Jake asks how Tom is. His mother thinks that it's just the flu. Marco says he heard that it was going around. They walk into Jakes room. Jake thinks that it's time to take Tom to the barn, like they did for him. Marco says yeah, but this time it's different. Jake gets mad and says what, just because they didn't get his mom they won't get his brother back (ouch)? Marco looks hurt and says no way, he's with Jake all the way, but how does he plan on getting Tom past his mom? Jake thinks that he can just wait until his mom falls asleep. Marco opens the door and says that it's already too late. Tom has gotten out of bed and told his mother that he's going to a Sharing Club meeting. Jake looks out the window to see Tom getting into a gray van. He runs out after him and as the van starts driving away he yells that he knows about the Sharing, that he knows everything. The gray van stops moving, and Marco (understandably) looks kind of mad.

Commercial Break

The gray van starts going again and Marco breathes a sigh of relief, saying Jake, that was too close. He turns to look at Jake but finds himself all alone.

The gray van is driving through the woods, tailed by Jake-the-dog. The guy that drove Tom there hands him over to Mr. Perkins. As Tom and Mr. Perkins are walking, Tom stops to catch his breath, asking where Perkins was taking him. Perkins says that he is taking him to the pick-up site. Tom responds by saying that he didn't think that it would be this far. Perkins tells him to keep moving. They go into a cabin and Jake demorphs at the window and sees Perkins tying Tom up. A wolf comes out of the bushes behing Jake (gee, I wonder who that is). Tom is telling Perkins that they'll get him again, because there's nowhere that he can go, that his efforts are futile. Perkins tells him to make it easy on himself and relax, and then offers Tom some chicken soup. Marco comes up behind Jake and tells him that he said that he was with him all the way. Jake says that that Perkins is on their side. Marco says that he heard already. Jake wants to go help Perkins, but Marco thinks that it's too risky. Tom is still a controller and can't see Jake until the yeerks out. He promises Jake that they'll come back.

Jake walks into the barn and tells them that they're not going to believe this. They say that they were wondering where Marco and Jake were, and that Tobias was about to go looking for them. Jake tells them that Perkins is on their side, and that he has Tom. Rachel thinks that it's great, and wants to know how it happened. Jake says that all he knows is that he saw Perkins make Tom soup. Marco finishes for him, saying that he has Tom tied up in a shack until the yeerk dies. Rachel's excited that they'll get Tom back. Cassie asks how long Tom has been sick for. Jake tells her two days. Tobias says that it should be out by tomorrow then. Ax tells Jake that he's sorry, but once Tom is free he'll have to leave, because the yeerks won't stop until they get him, and they know where he lives. Jake thinks that he can fake it and pretend that that he's still a controller. But Cassie says that he'd have to go back to the Kandrona, and hed never make it through the sensors. Rachel gets mad and asks them if what they're saying is once a controller, always a controller. Marco plays cheerleader by saying that they shouldn't stop fighting because the odds are impossible. Jake joins in, by saying what they're doing is impossible, fighting an alien race, and getting somewhere. They decide to help Tom get away once the yeerks out. Ax think that this could be an elaborate trap. Jake says that he'll know when he sees him, whether or not it's Tom.

Jakes' mother knocks on Toms' door asking if he feels any better. She opens the door and sees that he's not there. She calls for Jake and asks him if Tom had already left. Jake covers by saying that Tom was at a Sharing camping trip, and that he's sure that it'll make him a new man. He leaves his mother looking a little confused.

Afterclass, Jake goes up to Mr. Perkins and says that he wants to ask a question about survival in the wilderness. Marco looks a little uncomfortable and tries to get Jake to leave, but Perkins says for Jake to go ahead. Jake asks where he likes to go camping. Perkins tells him that lately he's been going to Milton (?) Park. Marco's like, great, they'll check it out sometime, and pulls Jake out of the classroom.

Outside the classroom, Marco asks Jake if he's trying to break their cover. Jake says that he just wanted to thank him. Marco tells him that he'd want to do the same thing. Jake starts to smile when he sees Tom, but stops when he sees that Tom is still a controller. Jake thinks that they should go warn Perkins, but then Principle Chapman and two goons start walking towards Mr. Perkins classroom, and Marco says that it's too late, because if they do something now, then the yeerks will know that they're a couple of kids at school. Jake's willing to take the risk, though, and he tells Marco that they need more people on their side, and he owes it to Perkins.

Tom, Chapman and company walk into Perkins classroom. Jake and Marco morph in the hallway. Perkins tries to jump out the window, but the two goons stop him, and drag him out of the classroom. Chapman tells Tom that Perkins is not to be reinvested, that he is to be eliminated. Jake (as a white tiger) jumps in front of Perkins and the two goons. They are all, of course, terrified. Perkins gets free and falls into a corner. Jake chases the goons down the hall. Chapman and Tom come out into the hallway and are introduced to Marco-the-wolf. Tom runs one way and Perkins runs away in another. Chapman is backed into the classroom by Jake. Chapman asks Jake how long he plans to hide behind his morphing ability. Jake jumps onto a desk. Chapman tells Jake that while he has the advantage now, he'll never win.

Chapman has a lot of fun telling Visser Three what happened. Tom tells Visser Three that Chapman failed to notice not only that Perkins was a free controller, but that there was at least one andalite using the school for cover. Visser Three looks really mad and Chapman stammers that he has suspected an andalite at the school for some time. Tom says that he has an idea. Visser Three asks what it is.

Perkins is in the woods at a fire when he hears a twig break. Jake comes out of the woods and sees that Perkins is gone. He calls out that it's Jake. Perkins come out from behind Jake (how did he manage that?) and tells him that he thought that he would find him. Jake hands him some supplies and says that they should last him awhile. Perkins thanks him, saying that he has no idea what he'll need. Jake tells him that he's the master of survival in the wilderness, and asks him what he's afraid of. Perkins says that he thinks that Jake knows, and that they're both in the same position, they both know too much, and maybe the less they talk to each other the safer they'll be. But then again, maybe they should share information while they think that it could be useful. Jake looks a little reluctant and Perkins says that he always has been smart, and after what he and his friends did for him it's only fair that he'll go first. He knows about the andalite disk, Visser Three has it, and is close to unlocking it. He starts to leave, and Jake is about to tell him about the tiger, but Perkins stops him, and says that he has a good imagination. Jake asks how to contact him, and he tells Jake that he'll find him. They shake hands and wish each other luck, and as he's leaving, Perkins calls out to Jake that he won't regret saving him.

In narration, Jake says that they risked a lot by saving Perkins, but it paid off. And while they still have a long way to go in there fight against the yeerks, that's not going to stop them from doing things the right way, even if it means saving the world one person at a time.
