The confirmed existance of Neptune came from German astronomer Johann Gottfried Galle on September 23, 1846. Neptune is the fouth largest planet, and the fourth planet in the "Gas Giant Series." Most of our information on Neptune came from the Voyager 2 probe. Voyager 2 found many dark rings we had never seen before. Neptune is the eighth planet from the Sun. Its average distance from the Sun is 2,794 million miles. The equatorial diameter of Neptune is 30,775 miles, the polar diameter is 30,199 miles. The length of one year on Neptune is equal to 164.79 earth years. The length of one day is equal to 19.2 earth hours. The surface temperature on Neptune usually sits at around -346 degrees fahrenheit. In weight, Neptune is 17.14 times larger than Earth. The density of this planet is 1.64 g/cm3. Neptune has eight satellites (moons). The two biggest are Triton and Nerid. Unlike most moons, Triton orbits in the opposite direction of which Neptune spins. I have more information on Neptune.
