Meet Sy

I am Sy, modest champion of grammar and thift shopping, probably not in that order. My was in suburban Maryland, where I saw many squirrels, but my mother has relocated the two of us the crumbly Dayton, OH (it has a lot of thrift shopping and hospitals, allowing me to safely and easily indulge in both unadulterated cheapness and disease). October of 2004 sees me stressed and slightly bewildered, applying to U of Nottingham and Lancaster U for a semester in England. If I can convice my lovely College to filter fees through them via aided tuition, the trip is a go. And oh yeah, I fell completely in love with sociobiology/evolutionary psych about a year ago, and am looking at nonzero-sum stuff for my junior capstone.
My favorite movie is Schindler's List. After that comes the Star Wars trilogy. After that comes Beatles movies. Shows? I adore The Muppets, Monty Python and other Britcoms, and The Highlander (which starred Roger Daltrey from The Who several times, to my utter delight). I like Whoopi Goldberg, though I could do without her constant profanity. My favorite pastimes are reading, AIM chatting, and mutilating my body in minor ways. (12/01 I pierced the interior ridge of my left ear) I like loose pants, tights shirts, and socks with fish on them.
My main academic interests were the life sciences. I absolutely loved 10th grade biology, which inspired me to take 4 science classes my senior year and pursue a college major in Biology. I was unhappy with my first college biology course and almost died in Chem 111, and now I'm after a degree in Sociology (a highly underrated discipline considered to consist entirely of "common knowledge"--this belief is due to the fact that the great contributions of sociologists have had such an impact that their ideas have been widely taught). I had planned to teach upper elementary school, specializing in science and English. Due to Ohio's incredibly lengthy list of requirements that would see me in college for 5 instead of 4 years, I shall be certified instead for upper childhood and teach high school. I have warmed up to this idea because 1) high schoolers pick concepts up more quickly, and 2) I think I'm less likely to get sued due to some American-style lawsuit crap pulled by some crappy American parent crap crap crap; if I can stand its climate I'm moving to England.
Ask me about my experience as a camp counselor. I dare you.
Random facts:
- I found work at Dollar Tree; the prophecy has been fulfilled.
- My favorite bands are BEATLES, Marilyn Manson, Our Lady Peace, Sublime, Blue Oyster Cult, Built to Spill, STP, Swell, Queen. I have also developed an almost shameful affinity for indie music.
- I wear Chuck Taylors, the most shoe-tastic shoes on the planet. I have seven pairs.
- I play the flute decently and have an utterly gorgeous tone, but I look much better playing the mellophone or the flugelhorn.
- Chocolate.
You can IM me at pyrex fish.
There are pictures from England, which are quite recent.
