Grum Axespliter....

Grum is a mean dwarf. Although a normallly good person, his gruff demeanor and dark humor has alienated him from his home tribe. Feeling he got no respect at home, he decided to travel the lands of the tall men, seeking trouble where he might find it. Somday, he'll return a hero, and nobody will have the gall to ignore him.
You see, Grum was born to a well-respected family, but as the 5th born of 5 children, his place in the family was almost unnecessary. Treated with disdain from the beginning, he sought refuge in the temple of Moradin, he felt a kinship with the other Priests who did not shun him...did not banish him from their midst.
Performing tasks for the Clerics of Moridin, he was one day vistited by a vision...the God spoke to him and told him to go forth and see the world. Find a place and meaning in his life. Find understanding why Grum was important to the world and to Moridin. Serve the God and be rewarded.
The Clerics were skeptical...perhaps even envious of his claim to have spoken with Moridin, and so they equipped him and sent him out...in their words "To do what Moridin has told ye...to see the world...far from here...".
Not stupid, he recognized patronising remarks, but he knew the truth...we truly was instructed by Moridin to take up his cause...to search out a meaning and an understanding for why Grum should be important in this world.
The lands of the Tall men are strange, and sometimes confusing. Grum misses the lure of the underground warrens he used to call home, but he will not return to them until he is important.
