The MBTA began using
these new buses in October of 2003. They operate from the
Arborway (2001-2118) and Cabot (2119-2299) garages.
These buses are the first MBTA 40-foot
buses with CNG power, and the first buses that use Cummins (Cummins-Westport C8.3CNG) engines. In the first part of the
year, buses 2001-2118 were delivered to the MBTA and almost all of the buses
were put into service on December 27, 2003. The remainder of the NABI
fleet, 2119-2299, were activated in spurts - first as shuttles for the Route 39
buses undergoing muffler warranty, and then altogether replacing the RTS fleet
in late July to early August. For a while, 2119-2124 were part of the
Arborway garage until some of the other fleet were fixed under warranty.
Now, 2119-2124 are full-time Cabot buses.
