Bienvenidos! I am Martha E.S. Buchanan and an education enabler. I currently hold the position of Academic Support Specialist assisting the Dean of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Margaret A. Crehan Hyde at San Antonio College. In addition to assisting the dean, I provide technical and professional support to Department Chairs/Coordinators and the departmental "Backbone" (a.k.a., the Support Staff) of twenty disciplines. I also work to provide support services to students regarding the academic review of scholastic petitions. Have over fifteen years of experience working in higher education and adult continuing education programs. Currently, I implement technology management for the Division web suite. I don't do much with information systems anymore (that isn't in my job description and I don't get paid for that), but rather information assessment and user access. I work with words, crunch numbers and cipher through various forms of data. Part of my responsibilities include interdepartmental and infra-institutional collaboration for establishing Articulation Agreements, 2+2 programs, Transfer Agreements, Memorandums of Understanding, and internship programs. Served on several San
Antonio College 75th Anniversary Committees, the 2002 SAC Presidential Search Committee,
and regularly volunteer for various SAC community events. Currently act in an advisory
capacity for the Service-Learning Program at SAC, and always find time to participate in
annual SAC Women's Center events. I am a silver TACHEista madrina for the 2003 scholarship
drive, and belong to the SAC Cyberpoets and Rosary Society. It is my intention to continue providing access to education and affording opportunity to adults whether as a facilitating member of the Alamo Community College District or as a stateside program coordinator within the academic arena, or as an education center manager overseas in affiliation with the US Armed Forces. Am finishing (finally!) my Masters in Education Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Education Technology at Our Lady of the Lake University. At OLLU, I have had the distinction of being inducted into Kappa Delta Epsilon and Sigma Tau Delta, two professional honor societies; and my literary work has twice been selected for publication. I received my Continuing Education Instructor certification in the fall of 2002. I am a veteran who proudly served as a Military Police Officer both overseas, 570th MP Platoon, and stateside, 194th Desert Legion MP Platoon. What else? Well, I like to joke that I am crossing the digital divide in a Saturn with my daughter riding shotgun and my cell phone plugged into the dash. Am an active associate member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Alamo Heroes Chapter, SYSTERS, and have calligraphered for the last 7 years (the last 4 acting as co-director) for the Trinity University/Texas A&M Commerce sponsored Family Name Heritage Booth at the Folklife Festival. Belong to two distinct writing groups, and do historical re-enactments annually. I compete in Poetry Slams which is residual from my days on the UTSA Forensics Team. Worked with the Xicana/o Education Youth Project, the Hispanic Research Center at UTSA, specifically, Making Connections, and with the Martinez Street Women's Center and the Girl's World project. Supported the WEBB and Women Of Ill Repute fundraisers. I have received a scholarship to participate in Gemini Ink's Writers in Communities outreach project, and have been twice awarded Upward Mobility grants through San Antonio College. I enjoy what I do. Pax, |
