Prototypes
The
Handy21 is in the prototype stage of development. Currently, the prototype
is based on the Compaq iPaq. The Compaq iPaq is currently available in
many computer and office supply stores. The main difference between the
Compaq iPaq and the Handy21 will be the way in which they process information.
The Compaq iPaq is currently loaded with more and more software and is able to
perform many tasks. It contains all the owner's personal information and
is not secure because another person could access this information. The
Handy21, on the other hand, will not contain nearly as much software as the
Compaq iPaq. It is secure because the owner's information cannot be
accessed since the Handy21 will transform itself to the new user's information.
One of the current drawbacks of the Handy21
is the Battery Life. It is currently has a life of less than 24
hours before it needs to be recharged. Scale
is one of the technologies that will improve this drawback.
These prototypes will lead up to the final version of the Handy21. The Handy21 could also look like this picture on the right. Here it is depicted as a type of "cell phone" being used between two people. A cell phone is one item which could be replaced by the Handy21. Other items include those mentioned in "How the Handy21 Works". All of these items could become obsolete if the Handy21 becomes as popular as those involved in Project Oxygen hope it will.
One area of the Project which seems to be further along than the others is in the field of Networking. This technology is available to us today. Accessing the internet through the use of a modem will soon become as obsolete as a dial telephone. The use of fiber optics and wireless network technology is becoming commonplace.
