William the Bastard: 1038 to 1047
You are a good commander of men, even at your young age. But Rouen is only one county and large town. Your enemies keep it under siege and constant threat. Every time you ride outside the walls you come under attack. Eventually there is hunger in the city, and your troops cannot hold the walls when the assault comes. King Henry has taken too long to arrive with the succor you were depending on. The city falls, and you retreat to the castle with a few dozen men only. Your enemies bring their catapults near and set them up in the streets and begin to bombard the walls.
By the time king Henry arrives, Rouen is in ruins and you are toast.
