William, the duke of Normandy: 1048 to 1060
Your banner is always visible to the outriders of the advancing royal army. Your demonstration as you withdraw back toward Rouen goads the king and Anjou on. Meanwhile, your main forces affect a total defeat of Eudes' unprepared army at Mortemer. You receive word of this victory, and your army rejoins you just as you arrive on the edge of the valley that contains Rouen.
Encamping outside the city, you send emissaries to the king, showing tokens of your victory. As usual, king Henry is cowed by any major reversal to his plans. He retreats at once, and count Geoffrey cannot persuade him to continue the campaign. Your duchy is free of invaders, and for the first time in years, you can breath easier.
