William, the duke of Normandy: 1048 to 1060

This was no time to give up the initiative. Timid men accept being besieged. We assume that this is what history will know you by, William the (timid) Bastard.

King Henry returns with a larger army, joins with William of Talou and count Geoffrey, and in a long siege, Rouen is reduced to exhaustion by hunger and disease. You surrender in the end, having no other choice. Henry takes you captive to hold as a check on your uncle, the new duke of Normandy, William III. (He can always be replaced by you, if he doesn't behave.)

Contemplate the heavenly city, you will have nothing more....
