William, the duke of Normandy: 1048 to 1060
This is a bold and risky strategy. Count Geoffrey has many enemies who might help you against him. But there is always a risk when the king of France is involved. In the event, it works out badly for you: while you are fully committed to a siege of count Geoffrey's strongest fortresses, king Henry enters Normandy and joins forces with William of Talou. Now you are in a sticky situation. You must defend your own lands, or lose them. Yet a retreat from Anjou will be hazardous in the extreme.
Yet you have no choice, you must attempt a retreat back to Normandy.
