William the Bastard: 1038 to 1047

You make it to the coast and find a ship to take you across the Channel. The queen mother, your aunt, is dutiful to your needs, but no fit replacement for a mother. You are lonely, and one by one your household diminishes, as your servants and guardians either die off or leave for better chances. Finally you are alone, living at the English court of your cousin, king Edward. Normandy is in anarchy. Your chance to seize your patrimony has passed, and so do you, into obscurity.
