Merlin

1989 - September 16, 2000

Mer was adopted as a two year old from our Humane Society, I was there for another reason but it was love at first site and I brought him home in September 1991. An exceedingly gentle and happy soul, so much more than "just the cat", our dear, dear little friend, we were so lucky to have had him, our time together was all too brief. Merlin loved us unconditionally and with all his heart and soul. He couldn't have been loved more, he deserved nothing less.

NICKNAMES: Mer, Poo-bum, poopy bum cat, poo-beast, racoon

Merlin was diagnosed with CRF (Chronic Renal Failure) in late December 1999. After an initial period of total shock, horror and depression, we learned to deal with it as any other chronic illness, lots of love and patience, loads of help and advice from our wonderful veterinarians, and advice and support from a lot of wonderful folks discovered online through The Feline Chronic Renal Failure Information Center

September 16, 2000 We lost the battle with his kidneys today, after the decline started to accelerate in July, the last few weeks have been up and down. Last weekend was wonderful, this week our little man didn't want to eat or cuddle anymore, he stayed pretty much in one spot and slept. The quality of life wasn't there anymore, we brought him to be PTS Saturday afternoon. We were able to spend a nice hour with him outside in the grass before we went on the last vet visit, he seemed contented, it was a lovely fall day. We miss him more than words can say.
