Band Membership
is open to to all registered members of the Scout and Guide movements
aged from 10 to 26 years and to all registered leaders of both movements.
Men and women over the age of 26 who are not Scout or Guide leaders
may join the band by becoming members of the East Hills Pipes and
Drums Scout Fellowship. Previous experience in Scouting and Guiding
is not necessary to join the Fellowship, nor is it necessary to
have experience in playing the bagpipes or in drumming to become
a member of the band.
Band
practice sessions are held from 7:30pm to 9:00pm every Wednesday
evening during school terms. At these practice sessions, tuition
in piping and drumming is given by very experienced tutors. The
cost is $2.00 per member for every Wednesday evening whether they
attend or not. This goes towards the cost of paying the tutors.
Every practice session is also attended by a supervisor who is a
member of the East Hills Pipes and Drums Scout Fellowship holding
a Certificate of Adult Leadership issued by Scouts Australia. All
band equipment (bagpipes and drums) and special items of uniform
(hat, scarf, woggle, etc.) are issued on loan to band members free
of charge, and proficiency in piping and drumming is marked by epaulettes
bearing appropriate insignia.
