Dumb and Dumber

Cast: Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Lauren Holly

My Review:

Words can't describe this flat-out, hilarious film.  I rank this film up there as Jim Carrey's best movie filmed so far.  Okay, its not an Oscar worthy, tear-jerker affair.  But you can't help but laugh at the pure silliness of this comic affair.  Just when you think you've had enough of the comic sequences, the film comes back with another one.  Like the memorable part of Jim Carrey demonstrating how exactly to make a flame thrower out of a fart.  I mean, that scene alone is the movie right there.

Jim Carrey stars as Lloyd Christmas, who's only source of income is dependent on his limo driving job.  Along with his pal Harry Dunne (Daniels) who both share the same apartment together they are basically a pair of idiots, literally.  Their stupidity is unbelievable at times.  Right off the bat, Lloyd uses an Australian accent for an Austrian one to try to impress an anonymous stranger.  So on one of his standard limo days, he picks up an attractive woman, Mary Swanson (who Lloyd develops a crush on) and drives her to the airport.  She carries an elusive briefcase with her and while in the airport she drops it in front of an escalator on her trip to Aspen.  On accident?  Or is there something else going on? Lloyd seems to think on accident and immediately grabs the briefcase.  He's so in love with this woman that he plans to leave with his pal Harry to go across the country to Aspen to return the briefcase.  Their means of transportation: their doggy eared van.  Together they embark on the trip while two assassins follow their trail for the briefcase.

The cross-country road trip is basically what makes Dumb and Dumber.  One scene involves the duo getting stopped by a nosey cop for speeding.  Lloyd had just urinated into a couple(!) of beer bottles because a washroom was nowhere to be found.  The cop pulls them over and. . .DRINKS the bottles mistaking it for beer.  Its immature humor like this that propels the film forward and keeps the audience wanting more.  The Farrely brothers sure do deliver it in ways unimaginable.  There's Something About Mary was an alright movie, but Dumb and Dumber keeps the jokes going at a steady pace, while Mary had just a couple of big comedic segments.

The Farrely brothers should be noted for this film instead of Mary.  Jim Carrey was superb playing an idiot and likewise with Jeff Daniels.  They were believable at playing a pair of goofsters and were convicining like anything.  I remember my stomach hurting from the amount of laughter experienced from this laughfest. Good day, mate!
