2001: a space odyssey
Review by Nabil Qureshi

Cast: Keir Dulliea, Gary Lockwood, William Sylvester

My Review:

Regarded as one of late director, Stanley Kubrick's classics, this film still holds a profound meaning today which makes it one of the most creative science-fiction movies this century

Altough it is not one my favourites, its hard not to give a good review.  The direction of imagery used here is superb and also very eerie in some ways.  The composition of classical music is superb with the space sequences and I was stumped (in a good way) with the ending.  Just what is the monolith?  And how does HAL go crazy?  The sequal 2010, gives answers but its best trying to figure this part on for yourself, for indeed this a mysterious film and it does take several viewings to figure things out.

And that's exactly one of the minor problems with the film.  Just what the hell is going on??  The events in the film mean something, but there has to be a limit.  I understood it, but it was difficult to figure it out.  It would be a waste of time to explain the plot because there isn't much to say about it.  The film is more like a painting.  You have to spend too much time, before you can reach a conclusion about its meaning.

If it weren't too mind-boggling then I would have had a better time with it.  There's probably some people out there who have commited suicide over the theme of 2001: A Space Odessy.  I might be next. . .
