The Mission Mikocheni Health and Education Network located in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, is a non-governmental organization which address itself to cross-sectional Health and Health Education Services and Consultancy Nationally and regionally.
THE OBJECTIVES OF MMHEN INCLUDES
To engage in or otherwise to initiate, develop, manage, commission, rehabilitate and operate (long and short term projects in the Countryman) related to health (curative and preventive) and health education.
To engage or otherwise to establish in association with local and overseas partners and organizations, to provide or cause to be undertaken training and consultancy in any field of curative and preventive medicine.
To establish health proffessionals training schools (medical & Nursing Schools and teaching hospitals) inorder to train adequate, - qualified and motivated medical personnel at all levels of the health care system
To promote Primary Healthcare through identifying prevailing health problems and disseminating to the public methods of preventing and controlling them.
To provide Public Health Education which focuses on strengthening and address issues related to child up-bringing, environmental sanitation and development in general.
To reach out to majority of Tanzania by providing health education through Massmedia such as public and private Radio stations and televisions.p>
Establishing and implementing community outreach educational and awareness programs with emphasis on communicable diseases especially HIV/AIDS intervention and its prevention.
To engage in or otherwise to establish diagnostic centres (laboratories) and research centres in order to enable access to training and offer such services for associated teaching hospitals.
To establish a desktop publishing unit to facilitate the publications of the literature, fliers, and any other literature which facilitates the realization of the objectives of the Network.
MMHEN INSTITUTIONS
Presently MMHEN has two entities, namely the Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU) and The Mission Mikocheni Hospital (MMH). Both the hospital and the university are non-profit making institutions; providing services to the general public.
OTHER MMHEN CURRENT ACTIVITIES
RADIO PROGRAM
Besides the two entities MMHEN also runs the radio program at the Radio Tanzania which provides the Public Health Education nationalwide.
WATER PROGRAM
MMHEN also runs a community water program, whereby the residents of Mikocheni & Msasani communities enjoys free water from the wells owned by MMHEN. The Mikocheni Neighbourhood experiences serious shortage of water in all seasons.
MCH CLINIC
MMHEN also runs a free MCH mobile clinic around Mikocheni Ward in Kinondoni Municipality, Dar-es-Salaam. Both mothers and would be mothers benefits from this clinic especially on its training component.
ORTHOPAEDIC PROGRAM
In collaboration with American based NGO, Souxland Tanzania Education and Medical Missionary ( STEMM) MMHEN conducts Orthopaedics clinics and operations for the people disabilities. The program is done once in every six month. The service is given for free to the poor patients and it is highly subsidized for other patients.
