fairy tales of the young at heart
when you come
in for the night
and give rest to a weary heart
softened by the fairy tales
of reverie
may you close that very chapter
of your life
the day you rise to find
tomorrow is where
you can’t go out to play
bear witness
to this passing youth
for you can never cherish everything you stand to lose
moistened eyes of a frightened envy
at the adolescent way
sprout towards heaven
leave the earth
and when you reach the moon
it’s worth
all of what you dream that it should be
and all you make
of what is not
for it’s the thought
that dreams the dreamer
that lights the lasers’
make-believers
it’s the world in which
you whir around
and in the end
you fall back down
to the very earth
which you once used to plunder
for its wonders
bear witness to
the passing of youth
with what you cherished
when you thought that you
had nothing left
and nothing left to lose
