a hello within a goodbye


this is not to say you’ll never
have to be alone forever
with your miseries and maybes
for just maybe we together

can be torn apart as one
say and do things said and done
to make mistakes and make amends
and now and then

to throw it all away
and leave it all behind
to give never a name
and never always say goodbye

just maybe give a hello
when the sunshine casts our shadows
upon yesterday
tomorrow is another way to fathom

what shall wait for us to wander
in its wonders, under me and you and them
remains the nothingness
that makes us all nobodies

but nobody stays for long
tomorrow’s own can’t be undone
tomorrow knows it can’t be done

why we can’t be returned to now
this time
and place
this perfect mind bereft of face
without a voice to speak for everyone
