exit 20
flushed
into the underbelly of a shark
gnashing, bitten limbs
licked with acid,
tainted and
smitten with the graceful
churning of the water
no one ever dared
to give back to
the womb
they were born from
and the
end result is trapped
inside these
industrial lungs, this
chemical skin
this heart of anger, throbbing
crying
pumping more contagion
into this life
and i believe
with these words i am safe in saying
it will never be
as beautiful
it will never be
as pure,
these arid eyes raining down
for generations,
this mouth of ashes
glittering my
foreboding; i can say nothing
to change the past,
the present,
do nothing to make the world
cheat death
it is mortal like us all; perhaps
we should, without guilt,
accept that
nothing will live
forever; and if ignorance should dare to leave
we, the inheritors of its fate
to our own devices,
orphans in the arms of life,
so be it.
