Sailor Scout Role: Second-in-Command

First Appearance: Episode 7-"An Uncharmed Life"

Raye Hino lives in Cherry Hill Temple with her grandfather, the temple caretaker. Though she can be quiet and peaceful at times, she's really hot-headed. She tends to start shouting when things aren't right, but it's more out of frustration than anger.

Raye commands a lot of respect and has great leadership skills, and she puts them to use as Sailor Mars.

In Sailor Moon's absense (or when Sailor Moon is crying too much to lead), Sailor Mars quickly finds a way for the Sailor Scouts to pull through. She also makes sure the job gets done right. Also, she gains a more profound respect for her grandfather. Things start to mellow for her then.

Raye is skilled in Karate, and she likes to pursue the occasional cute guy, especially Darien. (However, she backs off after discovering his and Serena's true past.)

Why did I place Sailor Mars as second-in-command instead of Sailor Venus? These are my two main reasons why.

First, Sailor Mars has been a member of the Sailor Scout TEAM longer than Sailor Venus (Mars was third, Venus was fifth), and this usually makes a difference as to who gains authority.

Second, it's Sailor Mars who tends to assert the authority and leadership in the team, especially when Sailor Moon is not in one of her better situations.

Transformations

Mars Power/Mars Star Power
First episode used in: #7-An Uncharmmed Life
(Star)First episode used in: #57-Gramps in a Pickle
With her red power pen in hand, Raye thrusts her arm into the air, and shouts, "Mars Power!" She holds the pen up in the air, as flames erupt from it. The flames circle her body from head to toe, creating each part of her Sailor suit, beginning with her high heels. Then, she strikes her pose, facing left, head turned to the left, left hand at her waist, left foot in front, right hand pointed downward. A fireball spins out in the background.

With "Mars Star Power," Raye holds her red star pen in the air, and shouts, "Mars Star Power!" She gets her nails done like Sailor Moon, except they're colored red. The transformation is the same as the "Mars Power" one. At the end, the sign of Mars is in the background.

Special Powers

Magical Anti-Evil Signs
First episode usde in: #7-An Uncharmed Life
The enchanted charms that Raye carries with her have nothing to do with her being a Sailor Scout. She learned how to use the scrolls of paper from being a priestess of her temple. These slips of paper stun creatures and/or make evil spirits go away.

Raye holds up the slip of paper to her face, and concentrates. Usually, she says, "I call upon the power of Mars . . . Fireballs Charge!" before throwing the magical slip of paper.

Mars Fire Ignite
First episode used in: #7-An Uncharmed Life
Sailor Mars clasped her hands together, much like a little kid playing with an imaginary gun. She says, "Mars Fire . . .," and a ball of fire forms at her finger tips. Then, she points her fireball at her target, and unleashes it, saying, " . . . Ignite!"

Also called "Mars Fireballs Charge!" in episode 27.

Mars Firebird Strike
First episode used in: #48-Raye's Day in the Spotlight
Alan and Ann's cardian drained Raye of almost all of her energy. So, when she transformed into Sailor Mars, she wasn't at peak condition. But after her music was trashed by the cardian, she really got upset. Who could blame her? She worked for a long time on her music, and she didn't appreciate it being messed with.

This is Sailor Mars' combo attack, so to speak. First, she pulls out one of her magical scrolls and does the usual thing with it. "I call upon the power of Mars . . . Fireballs Charge!" she yells, and the scroll floats slowly toward the target. Then, she goes into her "Mars Fire Ignite!" sequence, but the words change to "Mars Firebird Strike!" The fireball combines with the scroll, and together they take the shape of a bird.

Mars Firestorm Flash
First episode used in: #57-Gramps in a Pickle
This attack was used only once by Sailor Mars. It's the same thing as "Mars Fire Ignite," only with a larger and stronger fireball.

Mars Celestial Fire Surround
First episode used in: #57-Gramps in a Pickle
Sailor Mars was failing with her "Firestorm" attack, so she resorted to something else. She concentrated on her grandpa, who she apparently was drawing energy from.

Sailor Mars moves her hand in a counter-clockwise circle, with a tail of fire trailing. She begins, "Mars Celestial Fire . . . " Then, a circle of six balls, with characters on them, is formed. She says "Surround!," and the balls of energy come together at Sailor Mars' hands, and discs of fire shoot out from them.

These are Sailor Mars' powers and transformations in future series!

SuperS Mars Crystal Power, make up!
Raye says this to transform into Super Sailor Mars.

Mars Flame Sniper
Super Sailor Mars says this to generate a flame arrow. She can shoot it at an opponent. Mars also has good aim; she once killed a monster with her arrow even after the monster shielded itself with Sailor Neptune.
