Once Jedite is condemned, Nephlite assumes command of the energy-gathering mission. Nephlite can tap into the power of teh stars and he uses this in his work.
Instead of draining from many people at once, Nephlite uses his powers to single out people using maximum potential. Then, he assumes a false identity (he poses as eccentric millionaire Maxfield Stanton) and approaches them. Once he meets the person, he touches something near or dear to the potential victim and leaves his "mark" on the object. This marker begins to influence the victim, encouraging him or her to increasehis or her energy out put. When it maxes out, Nephlite gives the signal. A Negamonster will emerge from the marker and, at the same time, drain all the stored energy from the victim.
However, Nephlite encounters the same difficulties Jedite had. He can't seem to shake off the Sailor Scouts. Also, the Sailor Scouts aren't his only problems.
He has a rival: a young and bold female warrior named Zoisite, and she's always plotting to find a way to discredit him and take his place, and she finds a way.
It happens when Nephlite becomes entangled in a big "scandal." One time, when he tries to trap Sailor Moon by posing as Tuxedo Mask, he becomes acquainted with Serena's best friend, Molly. Though he can't understand it himself, he feels very strange near her, and Molly tries to help him. It turns out that Molly is in love with him and that she'd do anything to help him. Eventually, Nephlite begins to understand what she is feeling . . . but then Zoicite makes her move. She has Molly kidnapped, but Nephlite rescues her and evades the first trap set for him, but Zoicite's minions are persistant. They track him down and destroy him in front of Molly. The shock leaves Molly depressed for over a week, but one thing is certain: Zoicite got her wish. She's now in charge.
