Brandy Appeard for 1 Second on 2000 Watts Day

As everybody should know, Brandy appeared at the Watts 2000 Day w/ host Tyrese but unfortunately it was cancelled, but read on....

"I saw my boo Brandy for like 1 second!!!!! 1 sec. =*( First time I ever saw her in my whole life (I wanted to die lol!). She was with Jermaine Dupri and Da Brat, and there was a HUGE crowd around them. They left right away after. The event has been postponed until sometime in October 2000. The coordinator didn't say why, but he just announced the delay of the event. I wasn't that disappointed because I saw glimps of JD, Da Brat, and BBBBBBBRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDDYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!! When the event does take place, I have a feeling Brandy will perform a new single since she's recording this summer (I'm hoping and praying she does). This event is going to be huge they say, they're expecting ove 10,000 people. And don't worry if you won't be able to make it there. MTV Jams is supposively going to air some of it on MTV. Tyrese, Brandy, Jermaine Dupri, Da Brat, Before Dark, Flex, MC Lyte, Kobe, and Oprah (LOL coo!) is supposed to be there.Tyrese is opening up his dream community center in Watts and is releasing his new album this fall entitled Watts 2000 ( I wonder why?) I tried to take pix of Brandy, JD, and Brat, but I DEFINITELY know for sure that they came out HORRIBLE. The crowd around them was pushing and stuff and the security was going crazy. There was nothing there, just empty. There was basically just a crowd of fans.It was soooooooo boring, I left right after I found out. If my pictures come out good, I'll be sure to send it in to Morris to post. So there you have it. WATTS 2000 NEVER TOOK PLACE AIGHT? OCTOBER 2000. Brandy in Africa

Brandy was in New York recently discussing Moesha's syndication deal with the African Heritage Network and Ananda Lewis from MTV stopped by to see her. Editor Cynthia Horner dined with Brandy and her mom, Sonja Norwood, and discussed Brandy's proposed visit to Ghana, West Africa for UNICEF. Brandy, who works out every day on the tennis court, has portrayed "Moesha" since 1995. Brandy's brother Ray J will have an album out in the fall on Atlantic Records.

Brandy to Receive Recording Academy Award

The Los Angeles Chapter of the Recording Academy has chosen Les Bider, Chairman/CEO of Warner/Chappell Music, Inc. and recording artist Brandy as recipients of the 2000 Governors Award. Award winning producer and songwriter David Foster and film composer James Newton Howard are also recipients.

The Governors Award is the highest honor bestowed by a chapter and is presented each year to Recording Academy members who have been recognized as an invaluable asset to the music community. Recipients of the Governors Award are selected in acknowledgment of the excellence and integrity embodied in their work, as well as their willingness to support and participate in programs benefiting the music community.

The Los Angeles Chapter will pay tribute to the honorees at its annual Membership Awards Luncheon on June 15 at the Beverly Hills Hotel in California. Previous honorees of the Governors Award include Natalie Cole, Jewel, Quincy Jones, Smokey Robinson, and Diane Warren. The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc. (The Recording Academy) is a non-profit organization of more than 15,000 musicians, producers, and other recording professionals. Best known for the GRAMMY Awards, The Recording Academy is also responsible for numerous groundbreaking outreach programs involving education, human services, and cultural enrichment.

Ray J's Upcoming Album

Ray J, younger brother to teen diva Brandy, is hard at work on his second album and can count his sister and Jodeci's DeVante Swing among his collaborators.

The young singer is pleased with the album thus far and calls the material "a little more edgy" than his work on 1997's "Everything You Want." Aside from working on tracks with Noontime, Ray is also self-producing some tracks and working with his sister, two tings he's very pleased about.

"Oh, it feels good," Ray told MTV News recently. "I've been producing since I was like twelve, so it's all coming to life on this project.

"My sister Brandy's doing some stuff on it with me, writing, she's looking out for me too. So, she'll be on the project too. I ain't gonna forget about her."

Ray J is also doing some tracks with DeVante Swing, a founding member of one of the groups Ray grew up listening to -- Jodeci.

"Oh, DeVante's cool. We really got a good vibe," Ray J said of Swing's studio work ethic. "He was the [producer] I vibed with the most. We sat in [the studio] all night. We worked all night long, 24 hours a day. It was off the hook. It was a good experience for me."

Atlantic Records hopes to release Ray J's album, working title "The Ray J Project," in the fall. The singer is still in the studio completing songs and hopes to log some time with hitmaker Rodney Jerkins.

Brandy To Go To Premiere

Will Smith is among the celebrities confirmed to attend the April 16 Hollywood premiere of the new Spike Lee-produced film "Love & Basketball."

Although Hollywood heavyweight Smith does not appear in the film, he does have a stake in the project. Will executive produced the film's all-star soundtrack, which features new music from Lucy Pearl, Guy, Black Eyed Peas, and Donell Jones, along with classic tracks from Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Roger, and Al Green (see "Lucy Pearl, Guy, More For 'Love & Basketball'").

Others set to appear at the "Love & Basketball" premiere include Smith's wife Jada Pinkett-Smith, actress/singer Brandy, and the movie's stars, Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan.

Magic Johnson, Marisa Tomei, Blair Underwood, Richard T. Jones ("The Wood"), Elise Neal ("The Hughleys"), Jason Biggs, Shawn Hatosy, Maura Tierney ("ER"), Brian Krause ("Charmed"), and Brad Rowe ("Body Shots") are also scheduled to turn up at the premiere.

"Love & Basketball" stars Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan as a couple that bonds through their love of basketball. The film opens in theatres on April 21, while the soundtrack arrives on April 18.
