BRIEF STORYLINE: Darkstorm and his Darkling Lords are enslaved in the old Sign Factory outside New Valarak, after getting caught by the valiant Spectral Knights. , who are in the middle of helping a group of farmers to grow their crops which are flailing due to the new age. The Spectral Knights have snatched the Darkling Lords' power staffs and plots to trade them with Merklynn for in return, help for the ordinary people.
While they ponder over this, the Darkling Lords have releashed themselves with the magic key! They then transport to the trail path to Merklynn's shrine and coincidentally bump into the Spectral Knights and ambush them. The Darkling Lords break even, and get their power staffs back. After the tussle they stand before Merklynn and he tells of a quest they must complete, in order to recharge their power staffs again. They have to bring Merklynn a special magical jewel called the Dragon's Eye.
Both sides agree to work together for the quest. They scour for the wizard Falkhama who has the jewel. They track him down to the ruins of an old city. They're in for a surprise though, when Falkhama introduce them to a giant Technodragon! It puts up an impressive offense, but the Knights use their wits to defeat it. The Spectral Knights and the Darkling Lords then slug it out with each other for the Dragon's Eye. The Spectral Knights eventually win the Dragon's Eye and take it back to Irontop Mountain. Merklynn drops the Dragon's Eye into his mystic pool of power, which recharges it. The Spectral Knights then offer that Merklynn helps their citizens to grow crops in exchange for the jewel. Merklynn isn't enthusiastic about this, but soon accepts the deal. He tells them not to let the Darkling Lords he is doing this. However the Darkling Lords do not leave Merklynn's shrine empty handed, as they have wizard Falkhama.
REVIEW: Very solid episode. Once again the episode begins with highlights of the previous episode, which is the last time this gets done. Don't tell me why. The scene at the banquet table is highly amusing and shows Cravex in all his irritating comicalness. He almost assaults every Darkling Lord through his temper. Lexor is funny for his trademark biting statements behind people's backs, this time about Darkstorm, and lies to Darkstorm of what he said.
The action is good and fast-flowing when Arzon and Leoric escape the jail. The drama when rescuing the rest of the Spectral Knights is very good. However the actio spectacular goes downhill when both fully redeemed sides battle againt each other. On the other hand the vehicle clashing chase it leads to is solid and fast-paced.
One of the most vivid images of the episode is Darkstorm getting handed a key from Merklynn to free himself and his Darkling Lords after the bust-up that leads to them eing in reverse roles. Now THEY are the ones imprisoned. When Darkstorm gets the key, it radiates bright lights only magic can provide. The Darkling Lords scene in the warehouse, forced to slave away is a well edited scene. Another funny moment gifted from Cravex who gets so fueled in bad temper, that he trips up and the mallet used as an ink stamp hits him on the face, and a letter print is left to grace on his face.
Next we have the avalanche scene, which is another well executed scene as the Spectral Knights struggle to keep a hand on the Darkling Lord's power staffs. Merklynn then lets the Darkling Lords recharge their staffs, but at that point in time, he doesn't know how evil they are. Then we have all 3 Darkling Lords quickly summoning their power staffs, one after another, to attack Merklynn, and this is very action-packed, and the monsters fail to hurt Merklynn at all.
Nice use of dialogue is used, when Cindarr is unable to control his monster of destruction, and Darkstorms reacts that the beast "should go to obedience school". One of the best scenes is the whole Falkhama-with-dragon's-eye-inside-giant-robot-dinosaur situation. The Dragon's Eye prop is given big importance with close-up shots with a fiery-looking aura around it. As the end draws nearer, we see Merklynn starting to show his bias towards the Darkling Lords, by giving the Spectral Knights a reward, to make their people grow their crops faster. So it's a nice sentmental ending as the Spectral Knights group on the fields watching the too-goo-to-be-true results. QUEST FOR THE DRAGON'S EYE GETS A: 3/5 RATING.
