• has a pet rat named Scabbers, who turns out to be the animagi Peter Pettigrew, the man who betrayed Harry's parents
• becomes the Gryffindor quidditch team's keeper during his fifth year (although he'll never replace Oliver)
• plays a brilliant game of chess
