The Charmed Ones are the most powerful witches to ever live. It makes you wonder, what makes them so powerful, and what powers do they have? This part of the website is dedicated to explaining each sisters' powers. The powers didn't come with an instruction manual. Each sister had to learn to control each power that she received, and it wasn't easy. Here's a crash course in the Power of Three...

Prue Halliwell

Prue is the oldest of the sisters. By prophecy, the oldest is the strongest of all of the sisters. Her power was the ability to move things with her mind. The first time she used her powers was at a store. Phoebe mentioned something about their father, and suddenly all of the items shot off of the shelf. So the first trigger for her powers (before she learned how to control them) was anger. At first, she would squint at an object to make it move. Later, in the season, her powers progressed to where she could channel her power through her hands. Her second power came in the third season; the power of astral projection. Her first power allowed her to move objects with her mind; so now she was able to move her body with her mind. Astral projection enabled her to put a projection of her self to a different place. This power was very hard for her to control at first. She would want to be in two places at once, and a projection of herself would just pop up where she wanted to be. The first time she used it she was in a meeting at work. Her boss was talking to her and Piper was in the door was beckoning her to hurry up. She was so torn between wanting to answer her boss and go with Piper that she astral projected right there and the projection popped up in front of Piper. It took her about two or three episodes to fully get it under control. Before her powers could progress any more, Prue died at the end of the third season. She was killed by Shax, the Source’s assassin.

Piper Halliwell

Piper was the middle sister; however, after Prue died, she became the oldest sister, which in turn made her the strongest. Her first power was the ability to freeze time. At first, her range was very small and the time she could hold it was short as well. As she progressed as a witch, both her range and time grew larger. At first, fear was the trigger for her power. The first time she used it was at the place where she worked. She worked as a chef at a resturant, and her boss was about to taste something that she prepared but it wasn’t completed. He was about to taste her dish, but she wanted him to stop so bad that her power kicked in and she froze him. Her second power was the ability to blow things up. By freezing things, she was able to slow molecules down; she now had the ability to speed molecules up to the point of combustion. This power took her a long time to get a handle on. At first she didn’t think she should have it because she was having such a hard time controlling it. She would go to freeze something and end up blowing it up and vice versa. It took her a while, but she got a handle on it.

Phoebe Halliwell

Phoebe was the youngest; but after Prue died, she assumed the role of middle sister (the mediator between the older and younger sister). Phoebe’s first power was the only inactive power (it didn’t really affect anyone). She had the power of premonition. She could see things before they happened. (She really hated having the inactive power in the group, so she started taking self-defense classes so she could kick some demon butt!) Her power soon increased to being able to see the past and future. This was a minor adjustment to her powers. In the third season, she received the power of levitation (able to hover over the ground), which was good because she always wanted to fly. At the beginning of season six, Phoebe received the power of empathy (the ability to feel what others are feeling). This power was very hard to control at first. Anytime she was near someone, she would feel what they were feeling and it sometimes caused her to act on that feeling (ie. Jason’s desire, the angry person at work caused her to start a fight). Chris gave Piper and Paige a potion to block their feelings from her, because it was like an envasion of privacy. She now has control over it. She is advanced to where she can feel what others are feeling and channel their power and use it against them. *Side note: Empathy and telepathy are some of the strongest powers to have. That person can channel anyone’s power and use it against them.)*

Paige Matthews-Halliwell

Paige is the youngest sister. She was given up for adoption, but was called to the Charmed Ones to complete the Power of Three after Prue died. Being a witch and a whitelighter has some perks as well as some downers. By prophecy, the third sister in the trio is supposed to be able to move things with her mind. However Paige, being a half whitelighter, was slightly different. Instead of just moving things, she orbs them from point A to point B. The first time she used her power, she orbed a candle to her in the church. That is her main power as a witch. However, being half whitelighter came with its own powers. She is able to orb herself and others (moving from one place to another in orbs of white light) just like a whitelighter; she can heal people (though it has to be through someone else; ie. she had to channel Leo’s power through her to heal him); she can cast a glamour on herself (change her appearance to look like someone else); and finally, she is able to receive and help charges (her first charge was her father, Sam). However, being half whitelighter makes her susceptible to the poison of a darklighter’s arrow. It took her a while to get a handle on the orbing, but now that she has it down, that is a major form of transportation for all of the sisters. (She can actually orb anywhere in the world.) So that comes in very helpful.
