This page is dedicated to the people of Charmed's past. Sometimes, you might hear these names, so I thougt it would be a good idea to give a little background on each character that we don't see each episode, and tell a little about why they were significant to Charmed.
Melinda Warren
This is the Charmed sister's great-great-great-great-great-great grandmother, and the woman who began the Halliwell line. Prue, Piper, and Phoebe summoned her in the first season to help them vanquish a warlock who had been freed. They learned that the warlock who had escaped was the same warlock who was responsible for Melinda's death. Together they defeated the warlock; but Melinda could not stay, so the sisters returned her back to her time.
Patty Halliwell
This is Patty (Patricia Halliwell-Jones), the mother of the Charmed Ones. Patty died when Prue was about eight years old. In season two, the sisters avenged her death by vanquishing the water demon that took their mother's life. Prue had the most memories of their mother. Piper had just a few, while Phoebe had none. The first time she saw her mother was an episode during the first season; to undo a pact with a warlock named Nicolas, the sisters had to travel back in time to stop their mother from making the pact. Patty had an affair with her whitelighter, Sam, that resulted in a child, Paige. But because them being together was forbidden, Patty and Sam had to hide her pregnancy, and give up the baby when it was born. Patty has come back (Piper's wedding) and Paige had a chance to meet her (as a ghost) when she became a witch. But for the most part, she is resting peacefully.
Grams
This is Grams (Penelope "Penny" Halliwell-Johnson), the grand-mother of the Charmed Ones. Of all of their deceased relatives, she is seen the most. She is a matron in the family and was a very powerful witch. Grams performed Piper and Leo's wedding, and performed Wyatt's (Piper and Leo's son) blessing. After Patty died, Grams raised Prue, Piper, and Phoebe.To protect them from demons and warlocks, she binded their powers (temporarily took them away). However, when she died, the spell was lifted and the Charmed Ones finally received their powers. If you are watching the show, and the Book of Shadows randomly starts flipping pages, that's Grams looking out for her grand-daughters.
Victor (Dad)
This is Victor Jones. He is Prue, Piper, and Phoebe's father. Unfortunately, when they were young, he walked out on his family. He never liked the fact that his wife and daughters were witches. After Patty died, he tried to get Grams to stop teaching the girls witchcraft, but she refused. So he left. Later, he returned (in the first season, though he was played by a different actor). Luckily, they reconciled and he was there for Piper's wedding, Phoebe's wedding, and the birth of Wyatt.
Sam
Sam is the Charmed One's mother's whitelighter, and Paige's father. After Patty was killed by the water demon, Sam clipped his own wings. He felt guilty because he thought it was his fault that Patty died. So he stayed up at the lake where the water demon stayed, stopping people from going near the water. After he died helping them defeat the water demon, he and Patty were reunited on the other side. However, in season five, Paige's first charge as a whitelighter was Sam. Apparently, he had been sent back down and had again lost his way. Paige finally got a chance to meet her real father and Sam got a chance to meet the daughter that he had to give away.
Darrell Morris
Darryl Morris is not related to the Charmed Ones, but he is part of their family. Andy Trudeau's former partner, Morris is a loved and trusted friend of the Charmed Ones. In the second season, Morris finally found out what the sisters are. Since many of the cases that he comes upon tend to be super natural, the sisters frequently help him with cases. Both Darrell and his wife know about the Charmed Ones and their secret. He has been there for the sisters and they have been there for him. Though he really dislikes the knowledge that he has gained about the supernatural world and avoids it when he can, he always does what he can do to help the sisters, including covering for them sometimes.
