Going Home!

Follow our Blog for China Updates, too!

This is the story of our journey home. As you read the story, think of "The Amazing Race"!

The bus left our hotel at 6:00 a.m., which means we were up at 4:00 a.m. We had to finish up the packing, get ourselves ready and get the baby up, fed and dressed! We just about made the bus because Guy broke his cologne in the bathroom and stepped on glass! We arrived at the airport around 6:30 for an 8:20 am., flight. We had to check our luggage and get our boarding passes. We were in line about 45 minutes.... this is just checking in. Once we checked in, we had to go through customs....another 20 minutes, THEN, we had to go through security!!! We were running, literally running for the plane. Guy was carrying the laptop and my carry-on. Once through security we had to go to gate A5. The sign said this way to gates A5-A30. I was praying that A5 was first! Guy literally ran ahead to have them hold the plane....he was yelling.... my wife is coming with the baby!!! We were literally the last people on the plane....once again sweating with dry mouths! I was pushing the stroller with the baby and the diaper bag! The flight was only about 40 minutes.

Once we arrived at Hong Kong, we had about 2 hours until our flight home. We thought it would be plenty of time. We thought wrong. We had to once again check in, go through customs AND go through security where they actually used the wand on the baby. All she had in her diaper was poop....which we had no time to change. We finally made it on the plane and started to settle in for our 14 hour flight. Elizabeth was perfect....for about 2 hours....then she cried, screamed, arched her back and clung to me for the next 12 hours. It was quite a joyfest. I was covered with baby food, peepee and spit. She would not leave me. When I got up to go to the bathroom, I could hear her scream! By the way, the flight had 27 babies on it. At one point, the flight attendants gave all of the familes with babies trashbags and said not to put anymore diapers in the receptacles in the bathrooms, because they were overflowing.... and this was only 4 hours into the flight! Guy and I became experts in changing a poopy diaper in a plane seat! Thank God we were in Economy Plus which gave us 5 more inches of legroom!

Along about hour 7 or 8 into our 14 hour flight, she finally fell asleep....for about 30 minutes. This allowed me the pleasure of eating! The princess awoke and the joyfest continued! I kept asking Guy what time is it, how much more time. By the time we got into Philadelphia, I was never so happy to get off a plane!

My sister Lisa met us at the airport. We were so happy to be home and it was so good to see her! More on the next entry!!! Sorry, no pictures!

Love
Cathy, Guy & Elizabeth
