Iced Tea & Recipes

When the weather is hot and your throat is dry, take a few minutes to brew up a delightful, healthy thirst quenching glass of iced tea. There are many tea blends on the market that make excellent iced teas. Try some of Mountain Rose's teas or have fun making up our own.

Making Iced tea

Brewed Tea: Make tea approximately double strength and steep only 5 minutes. Pour into a pitcher over an equal amount of ice. (If you are using a glass pitcher, let the tea cool before pouring it in.) If you sweeten the tea while it is hot, you'll need only half as much sugar.

Refrigerator Tea Follow the procedure for sun tea, except let the mixture brew in the refrigerator overnight. This method has two advantages: When it's done, it's already cold, and no matter how long it sits, it doesn't get cloudy.

Sun Tea: In a glass jar or pitcher, place 1 teaspoon of loose tea or 1 tea bag per pint or tap water (with sugar, if you wish). Cover and set in the sun for 1 hour or so. Timing is not critical - because the water doesn't boil, the tea will not get bitter.

Raspberry Mint Iced Tea

1 (32 oz.) bottle raspberry beverage
4 cups boiling water
5 tea bags
1/4 cup mint leaves, crushed (or 1 bag mint tea)
1/4 cup sugar
Ice
Fresh raspberries, if desired
Lemon slices, if desired

Pour boiling water over tea bags and mint in a 2-quart heat-proof pitcher. Let stand for 10 minutes. Remove tea bags and mint. Add sugar and raspberry drink; stir until sugar is dissolved. Serve over ice; garnish with raspberries and lemon slices, if desired.
Makes 8 (8 oz.) servings
Preparation time: 15 minutes

Lavender Mint Iced tea

3 tablespoons fresh lavender flowers or 4 teaspoon dried lavender flowers
1/3 cup fresh mint leaves or 5 tablespoons dried mint
1 quart boiling water

In a jar or container, combine the lavender flowers and mint. Pour boiling water over the mixture; steep 5 minutes. Pour over a pitcher of ice. Yield: about 2 quarts.

Great Ideas

Mint Tea Cubes: To add a minty flavor to any tea simply fill your ice cube trays with regular mint tea, freeze and add to your favorite glass of iced tea.

Fruity Tea Cubes: Use any kind of fruit you like (peaches, strawberries, raspberries and melon work great). Put the fruit in the blender with a little bit of the tea; blend. Add to ice cube trays; freeze. Add these delicious ice cubes to your favorite tea for a fruity tea drink.
