In January, Maudrey Vizier celebrated her birthday. In February, Elaine, Peggy and Sandra S. celebrated birthdays.
Some of our pages will have no pictures. But, I thought it important to write about the events anyway.
JANUARY-2005
Well, I wish we would have had more of us on our January outing yesterday, the 22nd, but we ended up with a group of 7. We went to Thibodaux straight to Debbie's Antiques. We were seated in the Tea Room and had coffee and refreshments. We used this time to bring up new matters and set dates for future outings. We discussed different ideas and came up with good stuff! Then we browsed and shopped the whole store! After which we went to the 3 Antique shops on Jackson, only to find out they were closed, either all day Saturday (go figure!) or closed after noon! You would think they would know Red Hatters go out on Saturday!. Well, anyway! Cynthia took us to see her new house that she is buying. We didn't get to go inside because the owners are still there. But, as soon as she has that key!!! We then went to an Antique Barn on 308, that had gorgeous antique furniture and several other items. We then made our way to Bubba's for dinner. We sat overlooking the bayou at dusk and it was really nice. The food was fabulous! I had never eaten there and was pleasantly surprised. EVERYTHING I tasted was delicious! I have been telling Wilbert about it all morning so that next time we are in Thibodaux...... Well, 3 of us ventured into the bar so that some one could get a drink. Not the driver! We were accosted by some people who proceeded to find out all about the Red Hat Society and then invited us to join them at a Nicholls Soft Ball team as a Red Hat Group. The head coach told us that her Mom is also a Red Hatter. So we need to check that out. I have her name and a way to find her on the WWW. Those of you who have never participated yet, please try and come! We have such a wonderful time. You just wouldn't believe how close we are all getting and it is such fun.
FEBRUARY
Linda H. Matherne was in charge of planning our event this month. She chose to go to an early dinner at Bubba's and then to a play at the Thibodaux Play Theater. They met at Gwen's house at 1:00 and set out for Thibodaux. They went straight to the Demitasse Cafe and enjoyed time there. The ladies who celebrated birthdays were Peggy, Elaine and Sandra S. In attendance were Paul S., Paula G., Cyn, Elaine, Peggy, Linda, Pauline, Pat, Laura, Brenda and Gwen.
MARCH
What a great time we had at Trivia Night! I had heard of this, but had never attended. I have always loved Trivia, and this was really fun. There were 6 of us; Gwen, Elaine, Peggy, Linda, Pat and myself. We dressed in Red Hat finery and did our best. We found out that we were very knowledgeable in some areas, and not so in others. There were several catagories with a total of 113 possible answers. We answered 66 correct! All in all, it was a lot of fun and I am certainly looking forward to attending again next year. I hope that we can get several teams of 6 Red Hatters. It is always in early March, so keep that in mind!
MARCH 2006
Now, I know I am missing some events, so we will all have to get our heads together to think of where we went last year. In March of this year, we had another trivia night. This time we had Elaine's husband, Dick, join us. We are glad we did! He knows a lot of stuff. Gwen's daughter, Michelle, also joined us. She is a "Pink Hatter".
April 2006
We had our annual 2 parish RHS convention right here in Cut Off. The host Chapter was "Les Paradeux de Chapeaux Rouge", with Queen Peggy Copeland. She and her group really pulled it all together. We all had a wonderful time. The food was really good, and everything was beautiful. Some chapters put on skits and that was very entertaining. There were door prizes, and booths selling their wares. All had a great time.
May 2006
We seem to be in a Plantation house mode. This month we went to Oak Alley Plantation, again! We had 6 or 7 or us go last August 27, 2 days before Hurricane Katrina hit. That is just such a lovely place. I love hearing about the history of the people who built it, then how it went down, and was brought back to life again. It's very tempting to reserve a cottage on the land, B&B, and go to relax for 2 or 3 days in solitude. Thinking about it. We also went to Laura Plantation, a Creole Plantation. The story there is great. Worth the trip.
June2006
This time we headed for Burnside to the San Francisco House. That was interesting. Smaller than Oak Alley, but interesting as well. Then we headed to The Cabin for lunch. Now that was good! The bathroom there is fashioned out of the old cistern. the restaurant is so authentic that they still have the old newpapers on parts of the wall that they used to use to keep out the cold from the cracks. The food was all perfect. After lunch we went to the Acadia Village to do some shopping and browsing and have coffee. Then we went to tour the Houmas House. This was big and absolutely beautiful. The grounds were unbelievable. And shame on us, no one took pictures. There was a wedding going on so it was extra special. This house is phenomenal. The owner, 51, still lives in the house. He lives on the third floor, so we couldn't go up there. But, the guide told us that he sleeps on the second floor, and she let us see his bedroom! On the way home we stopped in Thibodaux to eat supper at The Ground Patty. What a great day. We were only 4 of us, Peggy, Pat, Laura and me.
