Game Reviews - Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire

Introduction
Pokémon has made its way to Gameboy Advance with its first appearance in 1998 on Gameboy. With the new installment of 135 pokémon, there are a total of 386 pokémon waiting for you to "catch them all". So what will you be doing in the game? Well, just like in previous installments. You'll be traveling around Houen to beat Gym Leaders for their badges. With that, you'll go for the Pokémon League and become the Pokémon Master. After that, its time to collect all the pokémon though its not necessary.

Gameplay/Control
The gameplay is pretty similar to the previous installments. You get to choose to play as a Male or Female. Some of the new features include the contests halls and 2-on-2 battles. You can enter your Pokémon into a contest and if your pokémon wins, your pokémon will get a ribbon in return. With the new 2-on-2 battles, 4 pokémon can battle at the same time and this means your strategy might be a little different from previous installments.

The controls are pretty good though L and R buttons don't have any function in the game. By holding down B button, you get to run around Houen and this is really useful.

Story
You'll be traveling to a small town and later help Professor Birch of the area. After that, you'll receive your first pokémon and thus begins your pokémon adventure. Along the way, your rival will be challenging you from time to time. Your quest is to be the Pokémon Master and before that, you'll need to collect Gym Badges by defeating Gym Leaders all around Houen. After that your goal to become a Pokémon Master is one step closer.

Graphics/Sounds
The graphics are really nice compared to previous installments. You can see weather changes while at different parts of Houen. In battles, the old moves have new improved animations. At the start of battles, you can also see pokémon coming out from the pokéball you caught them with. Each ball has different animations too.

Depending on the location where you are, the music will be different and it reflects on that place. Sounds in battles are pretty nice too.

Replay Value
The replay value is high. You'll be spending lots of time trying to catch all the pokémon. Also there's the Battle Tower where you'll be facing tough trainers. As for the Contests Halls, you might find yourself trying to let your pokémon wins every contests. There's just so many possibilities you can choose to do.

Overall
This is a really good pokémon game. If you're a fan of previous installments, buy it. Most likely you would love it but you can choose to rent it first just in case you don't like it since you can't get all the pokémon yet.

Score: 9/10
