Author's Notes: Lyrissa is Abbey's mom in my world.

She hadn't wanted to do what she did, but John had been insistent. He hadn't wanted children. He never had and she was pregnant. She thought about running away. She did. She talked to her best friend, Lyrissa Barrington about it. He friend was her normal frank self.

"Do you want this baby?" She, of course, nodded. She'd been initially quite excited about the baby, but that didn't last. "Do you love John?"

"Of course."

"Do you love him enough to give up this child and any other child that may come along in the future? If you do, you have your answer." She hadn't said anything. Lyrissa hadn't expected her to. "You don't have to tell me anything. I'll know. Follow your heart, Issy." She'd given her friend a hug and kiss on the cheek and had disappeared from sight.

I though it was funny when you missed the train When I rang you at home they said you'd left yesterday I thought it was strange when your car was found By the tree in Ennis where we used to hang around

Lyrissa stood at her front window and stared at the silent street. It had been months since she'd last seen Issy, since anyone had. In her own way, she was waiting for her best friend to come home. In another way, she'd already grieved. She didn't know where she was, but she decided to write her a letter…

Dear Isobel,

I hope you're well and what you've done is right

Oh, it's been such hell,

I wish you well, I hope you're safe tonight

It's been a long day coming and long will it last

When it's last day leaving,

and I'm helping it pass

By loving you more

She wondered what she'd had. Had she had the baby that she'd wanted so much? A son, maybe? She'd been gone so long. She missed her friend.

And who he would have become,

all the thing he'd have done

Would he have loved you and not let you down.

And would he be stronger than his father

Don't punish yourself, leave it well alone.

A few weeks after she'd sent the unmarked letter, she got one of her own. It was from Issy. It had a picture of her lying in a hospital bed, holding a tiny bundle of blue blanket in her arms. His name was Josiah. God has mended. Lyrissa laughed, and then she cried. God has mended. Yes, he has.

Dear Isobel, I hope you're well and what you've done is right

Oh, it's been such hell, I wish you well, I hope you're safe tonight.

It's been a long day coming and long will it last.

When it's last day leaving and I'm helping it pass

By loving you more.
