Piecemakers Quilt Guild

Meeting date: Monday, May 8, 2006, 7:00 PM

St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 301 South High Street, Fort Atkinson, in the New Fellowship Hall

Program:

The Great and Magnificent Fort Atkinson Piecemakers Guild Bed Peel

All of you members are to bring a favorite quilt for the bed peel. The quilt can be

one you made; it can be a quilt made for you; or just a favorite quilt you wish to show.

As the quilt shows on the "bed", it will be your turn to tell its story. And if you don't

bring a quilt, you must put a $1.00 in our guild's treasury.

POPPY SEED BREAD

(From the kitchen of Patti Filipiak)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

3 cups flour

2 1/4 cups sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

3 eggs

1 1/2 cups milk

1 1/8 cups oil

1 1/2 teaspoons each of vanilla, almond extract, and butter flavoring

1/4 cup poppy seeds

Combine all ingredients and beat for 2 minutes. Pour into 2 greased 9"x 5"

loaf pans. Bake for 1 to 1 1/4 hours.

GLAZE

1/4 cup orange juice

3/4 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon each of vanilla, almond extract, and butter flavoring

In small saucepan heat sugar and juice until sugar is dissolved. Add extracts and

flavoring. When bread is removed from oven, poke holes in

the top with a toothpick. Brush on glaze. Let cool in pans.

Note: butter flavoring is found in the spice/extract area of the grocery store in bottles,

just like almond or vanilla extract. Fort's Pick 'N' Save doesn't carry it, but Woodman's does.
