Secretary’s Report
The May meeting of the Piecemakers Quilt Guild was called to order at 7 pm on
May 8th by President, Jan Johnstone. Shirley Coulter is a new member.
There were 23 members present.
The treasurer had nothing to report in addition to the written report. Members would
like to know more detail about expenses, such as the programs and income. It was
decided to include the current treasurer’s report in each newsletter. A more detailed
report will be provided in the newsletter quarterly.
Announcements
Eleanor Weber attended the MATC reception to honor the recipient who received
our scholarship given in Janet Miller’s memory.
Tea and Textiles have flyers about making pink blocks for quilts to raise funds for
breast cancer research. Terry Borchardt reported on a quilt retreat where the beds
had quilts made from a project like this.
New Business
Chris Motl has volunteered to complete the secretary’s term for the remainder of the year.
Nancy Hoerter mentioned that it might be a good idea to not ask new members to
be officers until they have become more acquainted with the guild and procedures.
A motion was made by Sandi Hankowitz to add to our by-laws that a membership
of one year be required before becoming an officer in the guild. Seconded by
Jane Ingersoll and passed by voice vote.
The Jefferson Library is requesting volunteers to assist in teaching children to knit.
Call Sharon Weber at 674-7733.
Old Business-Quilt Show
Bernie Macijunas presented revised categories to accommodate more long-arm and
commercially quilted items for the 2006 quilt show. Scrap quilts had been eliminated
and members felt that category should still be included as well as adding hand quilted
to the group category as it has been in past shows.
Several members questioned if bookmarks are available to promote the show.
Jan Lewein has done the vine and leaves appliqué on the raffle quilt and Barbara Johnson
will do the floral appliqué.
Old Business-Relay for Life
Terri Borchardt reported on progress of the raffle quilt and suggested making small
bags for sale at relay. Forms for buying luminaries are available and donations of $25.00
or more are eligible for special prizes.
Jan Lewein reported on the quilt show in Paducah and shared the show book.
Bernie Macijunas made a motion to
adjourn the meeting, seconded by Audrey Yeager.
The program was a bed peel coordinated
by Patty Roost and Bernice Neff.
Show and tell prize was won by Jan
Lewein. Nametag prize was won by Nancy Church.

SENSATIONAL SHRIMP SPREAD
(From
the kitchen of Jan Johnstone)
1 Can (4.5 oz) Tiny Shrimp or Crab
1 8oz package of Cream Cheese, Softened
3 Tablespoons of Miracle Whip or Mayonnaise
1 Tablespoon Minced Onion
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Seasoned Salt and black pepper to taste, OR, I substituted
the Tastefully
Simple Garlic for this. You could probably use chopped
garlic, too.
In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese and mayonnaise; mix
well.
Stir in remaining ingredients. Cover; refrigerate for 2-3
hours for flavors to blend.
Serve with crackers. (12 Servings)
RHUBARB TORTE
(From
the kitchen of Marilyn Bauer)
Work like a pie crust, using pastry blender:
1 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 Tblsp. Butter
Using large fork, mix in:
1 egg
3 Tblsp. Milk
Gently pat into greased pie pan or 9" x 9" pan. Don't pat too much, or
crust will be tough.
Place 4 cup diced rhubarb on top of crust. Sprinkle 1 small
pkg strawberry Jell-O (dry) over rhubarb.
Make streusel by mixing together:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup melted butter
Sprinkle streusel over top. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
Cool. Serve plain or topped
with ice cream or whipped cream. Refrigerate leftovers.
Note: For the May 8 meeting, I used a 10x15 pan so I
tripled the recipe and baked for one hour.
